Question:
Coffee and Sugar

I just wanted some imput, from you guys. I will be a year post op on June 23rd, until about a month ago I had really not had much sugar at all. I never have cookies, cake, things like that. All of a sudden I have this new thing for coffee with cream and sugar, I only use about a teaspoon. It does not make me sick, so does this mean that I dont dump on sugar and will this stop me from losing more weight? I have gone from 332 to 165. Thanks    — luckyflowers (posted on June 11, 2004)

Have you tryed splenda? It is wonderful and does not leave that nasty bitter after taste like alot of sweeteners do I would not be taking the chance with reg sugar.I have 2 cups of decaf coffee every mring with splenda and SF creamer Take Care Huggs Beth

A teaspoon of regular granulated sugar has 4.2 grams simple carbohydrate. Probably not enough to set off dumping. It doesn't not mean you won't dump on sugar, and it probably won't keep you from losing weight. (Its about about 16-17 calories per teaspoon.) I say, enjoy it!

I use sweet-n-low and either half-n-half or powdered cremora,, I love my coffee and I enjoy it!! I say go for it, but I would try the splenda or sweet-n-low, then you won't have to worry about the sugar thing so much!!

Cheryl, some members have gone to extreme by never having sugar. I developed a strong dislike for anything that is "diet or sugarfree" I can drink or eat anything w/o sugar. As for tea/coffee I use cream, which is sweet. However, my surgeon said everyone needs a little sugar and 1-2 spoons will not cause you to lose weight as long as it is not a trigger that would cuase you to increase your "starch/carb" intake. GREAT JOB ON THE WEIGHT LOSE! All you have to do is maintain your weight now.

I have sugar in my coffe and always have. I do not like the taste of sweet n low and Splenda seems to make my coffee 'frothy'. Dunno, can't really explain that one. I love it in everything else. As for the dumping...it has always taken far more than a teaspoon or two of sugar to make me dump. Trust me, don't test it. :-)
