Question:
Can you tolerate sugar coated pills post-op?

Hi everyone- I am still pre-op. I currently take Cafergot as needed for migraine headaches, usually once or twice a month. This is a medication that seems to work VERY well for me, as some of the others have not. Unfortunately, Cafergot is sugar coated and isn't available in any other form (that I can find, anyways). Can you posties tolerate sugar coated pills? I'm really scared at the thought of being unable to use my Cafergots, as my migraines are very disabling. The pills are about the size and shape (and taste, LOL) of a Skittles. I usually have to take between 1-3 pills over 3 to 5 hours, depending on the severity of the migraine. Thanks for your responses :o) Mea    — Mea A. (posted on October 12, 2003)

Hi, I can't speak for all, but I have never had difficulty with an amount of sugar as insignificant as the amount in the coating of a pill. I would think you will be just fine. If you like, why not write to the drug company and ask if the can tell you the amount of sugar in the coating. I wouldn't worry though. Good luck!

You should definitely ask your surgeon!

I doubt you will have any problems with that tiny amount of sugar. I could tolerate 12 grams as a new post op. I doubt they would have even that small amount. But I hope your pills are NOT time release. For most of us they will not work anymore.
