Question:
I have seen a Butt question but mine is different.

I used to be able to sit here at the computer for hours..now post op 20 days and my butt gets numb after about 15 min of sitting. This is not tail bone pain. Any suggestions? Thanks    — luckyflowers (posted on July 13, 2003)

I don't know if this is a physical question or an emotional question... when my butt started going numb like that, I HAD to getup and move. My doc told me it was nothing but my mind letting myself know that I KNEW I had to move more to increase my metabolism and weight loss. It could be your bodies way of say, "Hey, move this butt!! We gotta get healthy and heal!" Listen to it, and move that butt! :~) Now... I'd still talk to my doc about it, but this is just what happened to me! 19 months post-op and down 227 lbs! :~) I still can't sit at the computer for more than 5-10 minutes without my butt getting sore! I can't watch a whole 30 minute tv show without getting up every commercial break and moving around! :~)

You are losing weight rapidly at this point in your journey. It could be that there is pressure now where there hasn't been any before, or for a long time. The pressure could be pushing on a nerve and causing the numbness. Your body is going to go through many changes, some uncomfortable, but your body will adjust and feel better eventually. Now 20 months out, I don't have the butt pain that I had when I was just a few months out. I don't have the knee pain that I had when I slept on my side from the knee bones rubbing together. My body has become accustomed to its new shape and weight, and still re-adjusting. This is quite a lengthy process.

Well I am 11 months post op and for several months now I haven't been able to sit as long cause my butt gets numb but I felt it was from less padding there, lol. I can't imagine at only 20 days post op loosing that much behind though I guess it's possible. My weight loss always starts in my face and works it's way down. Took awhile for it to get to my butt. Both my friend and I have had wls and this happened to the both of us. It was extremely uncomfortable but does go away awhile after the surgery. I'm thinking it took me a couple of months for the feeling to go back to normal, once I went back to work and was moving around more.

I found in my case, that it is definitely NOT THE TAILBONE that was bothering me, too. For me, it is the excess skin. What is happening is that my skin is folding right at the place where the cheeks greet. When I sit, I am sitting on that fold. This is what bothers me. I thought, at first, that it was the tailbone, too.

I just wanted to tell you your opening line was a real attention-getter! i have no butt issues, but i just HAD to see what the question was about. That's all...sorry, i don't mean to make light of your situation at all, but i just thought the way you put it was very funny! I hope everything works out for you and you find relief; with all the great support and knowledge on this site, i'm sure you'll continue to get great answers.

Less meat on the butt area. This was always my smallest part and I guess as luck would have it my first place to lose. All my pants and shorts, even in my size have baggy butts, as well as me not being able to sit anywhere for extended periods of time.
