Question:
Preop and Liquid Zoloft burns my throat

Hi, I am preop, scheduled for surgery in 4 days I got a RX filled for liquid Zoloft to take post op. I started it this week as I had ran out of pill. OMG it burns going down. Now I can deal with that//but I am concerned that it could hurt me inside. Any ideas? Lisa    — Lisa B. (posted on June 14, 2003)

The liquid Zoloft I tried to take had to be mixed with either water, OJ, or lemon/lime soda...this is what it said on the outer box. Are you taking it "straight"? It made me gag so I began taking my Zoloft in the 50mg size (really tiny blue pills)...I take 3. They go down fine, but I have to take them in the middle of eating...it seems they have to "land" on food, and be covered by food in order to not burn my pouch. Must be something about Zoloft in particular that caused burning, whether it's liquid or in pill form.

I did the same thing- got the liquid Zoloft for post-op, and found that it REALLY gave me pouch problems. Terrible diarrhea! It does burn, a lot!!!!I took it for 3 days after my surgery, and then switched to putting the pill in my protein drink and whirling it up. That worked much better. I think I could have probably swallowed it, but was too afraid to try it. Try cutting it up really small if you can't put it in the protein drink. I spent over $50 on that bottle of liquid and was terribly disgusted that I couldn't even take it! Good luck to you!

Honey, don't worry about the pill. I am 8 weeks post op & I have taken mine ever since I came home from the hospital. It is so small. I simply swallow mine. Not a problem. Good luck with your surgery!
