Question:
Is it okay to

I read on a website that the best time to consume protein is upon waking and just before sleep. I was wondering if anyone else "protein loaded" at night and if it has any benefit? I drink a protein shake in the morning (mine is low carb, 30g protein) and was thinking of adding one before bed too. Any insight on this?? Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov. 4/02 (-111 lbs.)    — Kim S. I am still a night time snacker, so I eat my protien bar almost every night before going to bed. I figured it was better than chips! I still lose with no problems and I munch less when I eat the bars. Open RNY 7mo post-op lost 115#

I drink half a Real Meals mid morning and half at night. That gives me a total of 60 grams of protein plus the food I eat. Those are the times that usually I would look for something to snack on and drinking the shake fills me up.

I drink two Proscore 100 Chocolate protein shakes a day (30 grams of protein apiece); one in the morning on the way to work (but that's mid-morning, after breakfast), and another one at bedtime. Once in awhile I'll have a third one sometime during the day if I had carb-fest the day before ;~). Can't say if time of day makes a difference or not; my thinking is that it's good to use a whey protein shake, which is better absorbed than soy protein, or even protein from food (though I also think I absorb protein from food, as a proximal RNY).
