Question:
Does anybody else have trouble getting their protein shakes down?

It takes me a good hour to drink mine. Will that affect the way the protein is absorbed?I heard its best to eat your meals within 10 minutes? Is that true? Thanks.    — Elizabeth C. (posted on November 12, 2002)

My support group stresses after 20 minutes put it away. Limit your meal to a 20 minute interval.

You don't say how long you are postop. I had trouble with the shakes at first. I went back to them after about 2 months and they've been a lifesaver. Bear in mind that your taste(bud)s will change postop. Hope this helps.

What kind of protein? How are you making it up? How much what to how much what? How many oz is it when you're done with it? Maybe it can be cut down to smaller size? Do 2-3-4 per day instead?

I had the same problem until I found Real Meals. Not only me it seems that a lot of people that try it think it is the best. Check the product reviews on it here is the link just copy and paste it http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/product-detail.phtml?pid=527 I think some more people put in reviews under meal replacements too. It not only tastes good. It has 60 grams of protein (I split it into two mini shakes) and over 40 other vitamins and nutrients. Including biotin to prevent hair loss and lean muscle stimulators to prevent sagging skin. You can also go to their website at www.protein-solution.com

I am 4 weeks post-op and I can not get any protein shakes down. I have tried tons pre and post-op and they are so thick and foamy and such an awful tast that as a postie, they make me gag and I have to throw them away. I have tried the carnation no sugar added and added extra powdered milk with it and I can get a few ounces of it down before it gags me..it tastes too sweet. Seems I cant win. I am also at a stage now that many meats will not go down well. I have figured that I get about 15-20 grams daily. I am supposed to get 60-90. So I know how you feel. I am hoping things get better as we go along.

I have to drink my protein with tons of ice, I fill my glass with ice until there is no more room and sip with a straw and sometimes...I want more. I had trouble finishing soy drinks but love whey products.

I'm using Pro-Mod. I take a half cup of low acid no pulp 100% pure oj, 2 scoops of the pro mod, a half cup of ice, and 2 tablespoons of Cool whip free and i blender it. it astes just like an orange cream popsicle.
