Question:
How much help will I need after surgery?

I am scheduled for open BPD/DS on Nov 11 and I am trying to schedule post-op help from family and friends. The hospital is 2hrs from our home, so my hubby will probably stay w/me in Nashville minimum 2 days. My sis will be flying in that first week also - should she stay 1 or 2 weeks? I have friends that can help when she leaves, but will I need someone home with me fulltime weeks 3 and/or 4? I ask this because we have a 7 & 3 yr old that are taxied to school, choir and basketball. I know my mom-in-law would help in a heartbeat, but we aren't planning on telling the inlaws unless we really have to. Any tips or suggestions????    — Anne F. (posted on September 10, 2002)

Well I had a open on june 13 2002, i had my mom and dad hear almost every day for 4 wks. I really didnt need them for me after about 10 days, they just decided it was there chance to get into every nook and crannie in my house and clean everything that wasnt nailed down. If you can get help running your kids to and from for the first 2 wks, after that i started to drive, just the to and fro stuff. Take it easy when the kids arnt home, take your naps, drink your water, and dont lift anything to big. I hope this helps if this is not enough email me.
