Question:
Is it possible to get Voc Rehab to pay for WLS in 3 months?

I have been contemplating leaving my job for over six months, but have been hung up due to my insurance company and waiting for approval. My mother is ill and I need to return to care for her but my health insurance has been said to cover WLS. If I just cut my losses and start over, could I begin the voc rehab process before I leave and be classified as disabled? I truly believe that I am, this is not a scam, but a desperate attempt to get help.    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 4, 2001)

Hi :) Voc Rehab paid for my WLS on 9-17-01. I made an appointment with a couselor and filled out the necessary paperwork and that was it. She didn't take much convincing that my obesity was affecting my job duties. I work for the state and have BCBS, which does not cover anything related to obesity, and Voc Rehab was my only option. Of course, they won't pay for your surgery if they don't believe that you are returning to the work force. I would talk to a couselor and see what options they have available. Good luck!!
