Day 5 post op. Mom is still in the hospital. Dr. Ghaphrey wants to keep her there until nothing at all comes out of her JP drain, which may take 1 to 2 weeks. The great news is less is coming out every day which means her leak is healing! PRAISE GOD! She has not had anything by mouth for 3 days now and says she feels great. No thirst and no hunger. The IV is doing an excellent job of keeping her hydrated! I told her to ask a nurse to find her a scale. This is almost 2 weeks of liquids (and now, nothing at all) and she should have dropped some weight! She looks and feels great. She is not taking her pain meds anymore. She still tires easily after she does a few laps around the floor. I have been there, done that. She is 22 years older than me though. I am so proud of her! Her attitude has been very calm and accepting . She admitted yesterday that the days are starting to seem loooooooong. Us posties know how we wanted to get OUT of that hospital when we started to feel really good. Please keep her in your prayers so she will heal quick and be able to get home soon! Her husband and her 12 year old son miss her. I miss her too. That's all for now! Ciao!

My mom has developed a leak in her pouch. It seems to have happened the day after surgery. She said everytime she would walk or sit upright, she would have lots of pain at her incisions and I think something got pulled, stretched, or popped. Her JP drain wasn't filling up like it is now. Thanks God Dr. Ghaphrey is careful enough to leave the JP drain in. That is the only way it was detected. He believes that the leak will heal itself in a week or so with NOTHING taken by mouth. He has had it happen to a few other patients and they all healed up on their own, with no other surgery required. This could have been a fatal situation if she did not have that JP drain in her side still. Thank you Lord for looking out for my mom. She will have to stay in the hospital, on an IV (for hydration) until she heals. I told her that the good news is, she will lose LOTS of weight if she is without food for a few weeks! Please keep her in your prayers and give thanks to God that her leak was detected before she poisoned her own body with juice and liquids.

Hi AMOS! My MOM came through surgery just fine! I got to talk with her a little in her room after she was in recovery for 2 hours. She is groggy and sleepy (drugged). Thanks so much to all the kind souls who signed her surgery page. It touched my heart and hers! Please keep her in your prayers for a quick recovery and no complications! Peace,
