HI again! I've been reading your profile and can relate to it. I also had intense back pain before the surgery. I was injured at work and could hardly walk, much less exercise. This is where I gained most of my weight, and in fact became handicap. Even though you have disk damage, simply carrying less weight on your frame may decrease your pain - as it did with me. As I began to lose weight, I had less pain and was eventually able to exercise. It's worked so well, that I no longer and handicapped. In fact, I took great joy in tossing my old handicap sticker into the garbage! I hope everything goes well with you - drop me a line if you need anyone to talk to!

Congrats on this step Mary Beth! I had surgery with Dr. Borland and got upset with the insurance hurdles as well. It was all worth it in the long run. Best wishes and speedy recovery!

My prayers will be with you as you go through the surgery and recovery. May your strength be restored; your recovery be swift and your tender heart be renewed.

Hi Mary Beth, I'd say don't be nervous, but heck, I was! Of course it was all for nothing (except I probably burned a few more calories) because my surgery went fine. I always say the week before surgery was harder than the week after (it was for me anyway). Keep it positive and and that includes having ONLY supportive people around you. You've made a wonderful and couragous decision to improve your health (of course in retrospect it seems like a "no brainer" to me now). Be proud of yourself; take care of yourself and I hope all your health and weight-loss dreams come true......
