I would love to have some of your raspberry plants!  Love me some raspberries!!!

My garden is a flop so far this year.  I need to get my butt out there and plant some stuff (if it's not too late).

Last year we had zuccini, yellow squash, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, broccoli, and cucumbers.  Pretty boring but my family are not adventurous eaters so it worked for us.

However, we do have 23 roosters that are almost ready to butcher and we have 6 layers that provide fantastic eggs for us every day!

We also have done some trade with a farmer for some organic, grass-fed beef - OMG I'm not usually a red meat eater but the grass-fed beef is sooooo good!

I also have a freezer full of wild pig that DH hunted about 2 months ago.  Turned most of it into sausage but I got to control how much fat I put in each batch and it works well in spaghetti and breakfast burritos.

The fruit stands here in Cali are FULL of yummy fruit so I'll be pulling out my dehydrator

After work I'm headed to talk with a local gardener to find out what I can still plant this late in the season...

 Wow Bekah  !

Sounds like Ure actually DOING   what most of us only DREAM of .....  SO  SO Cool  !!!

I had a couple of rescue chickens two years ago ( silkies ) and though they  were wonderful and very Decorative and  really very pettable and affectionate ..boy were they a tremendous responsibility  maintenance wise and  safety wise ....

Id love to rescue  a thoroughbred horse or  two  but the same specter haunts me  ..the RESPONSIBILITY  .

Not  like a housecat noway no how  lol .....

do you keep your flock indoors or out  ?   Do they  eat   every bug in your garden  ?  Mine  did an amazing job on the aphid s and snails ......I can STILL   feel their presence two years later ....  and BOY  did they fertilize too  ...

My raspberry plants are Fallgolds  .... the BEST  ... birdproof ..  they bear  JUne  through frost  LITERALLY  .....  giant golden /pink  sweet berries   - delicious !   I'd seriously be happy to send U some   my garden is small and  I get  healthy  " volunteers  " all the time     I can't accomodate .  My chickens didnt  eat the berries at all  either  .. I guess they only see red  like most birds

The meat birds are in a rolling pen that we move twice a day.  Can't stand the thought of them sleeping in their own excrement   Especially if I'm going to eat them - I want them happy and healthy!

The layers are free-range.  We have 3 Aracauna's, 1 Bantam hen, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and a pretty black one (don't remember the breed).  Wait - I guess we have 7 layers - LOL  I lost track!

They just roam around the yard all day eating bugs and we throw them some scratch and crumble every morning.  We have an almond orchard behind us and they wander the orchard when they get tired of the yard.  Sometimes they think the neighbor's bugs must be better because we occasionally have to retrieve them from the neighbor's yard.  Crazy chickens!  Then at night they all march into their coop like good little soldiers and we lock them in to keep them safe.

They do a great job of controlling bugs!  We used to have a huge problem with earwigs but since we got the chickens we've only had a few make their way in the house.

I will PM you with my address if you want to send some raspberries that would be great!  I'll even pay for shipping if you need me to.

just tell me where Bekah .. theyll literally thrive and bear ANYwhere I've found ... this crop is growing in the most inhospitable semi - shaded ( see the big TREES on the other side of the fence ? ( nasty neighbor ) .. dry raised bed ..its VERY very hard to water adequately there because its BEHIND some huge planting boxes and still I get a MAJOR pestproof crop and it just keeps coming ....

a great plant Ive also never had a single virus or bug or any other disease problem with em in all the years I've grown em and I have many other fruit trees , tomatoes etc ... ya gotta applaud a plant like that

I'm still eating brocalli and spinach but I need to pull the spinach up and plant more.  The sugar snap peas are gone but I am getting a pint of blueberries every day and we can't keep up so I have been freezing some.  Tomatoes aren't ripe yet but there are tons of them.  Beans and soybeans are doing great but not ready yet.  I'm kind of in between the spring stuff and the summer stuff.
Need to plant the second round of green beans, spinach, squash, lettuce, chard.  I love my garden.

I want to come drive on your horse trails!!!!

Ava - REALLY??? Who takes offense with YOU?  Maybe on the MAIN board, but NOT here!

I wish I could grow a garden, but alas, not meant to be.  We have way too many wild critters in the yard just waiting to eat the harvest.  Maybe next year I'll do a pen type of thing - too late this year to get it started.  Plus we are somewhat sun challenged here.  Lots of shade trees - I'll have to scope out the yard to see where/when the best sun spot is.

Ok - tell us more about the Georgian mansion - and what's going on with the property you were buying with your hubby.
