I posted before about seeing an endo dr for my low blood sugars and seizures from them .. and that I now have to start checking my blood sugars .. I have reactive hypoglycemia and he classified it as severe .. that was last week after going through this for 4 years .. had RNY Sept 15, 2003 .. anyways, I went back yesterday for the eating plan part of it .. and was not happy when I left .. good thing I had to see my therapist afterwards .. the eating plan they gave me is the complete opposite of what we are told to eat after we have surgery .. each meal I am to eat 30 grams of carbs and each snack 15 grams of carbs .. that adds up with the calories as well .. I also have an eating disorder (anorexia/bulimia) on top of everything and was told that if I binged that would help them determine why and what my sugars are .. now why would I want to do that on purpose like that .. my therapist is actually one that my surgeon sends others to before they have surgery .. as well as she deals with eating disorders and my surgeon had me go to her for that as well .. even after he forced me into the hospital to the eating disorder unit .. but when she read the plan she too said wow its the complete opposite of what you are told to do after surgery .. I have given a copy of it to my surgeon and am waiting to see his reply .. There isn't anything any one can really say or do .. I am just more or less venting as well as just updating from my prev post on my reactive hypoglycemia .. just plum crazy, huh .. well thanks for listening .. Rhonda

WOW...Wild head trippy thing going on there!  Good thing you have a shrink!  LOL Well let us know what the surgeon says...I know I'm curious!   Maybe keep those carbs as complex ie: fruits and veggies and whole grains huh? Less guilt!  Anita

Many fruits and veggies trigger hard crashes.  That part, really sucks.

That does really suck!  What a dilemma...  Anita

Does this doctor specialize in people who have had GBS?  All the stuff I have read in the studies on this stress eating foods with very low glycemic loads.  Glucose and starchy carbs in your gut trigger GLP1 gut hormones that stimulate the pancreas to spit out insulin.  I'm glad you're talking to your surgeon. I would get a second opinion.  After dealing with dozens of doctors through my husband's cancer and then my GBS, I've learned that many don't know a lot about nutrition and that you always need to be proactive and get second opinions if you are uncomfortable.

I am sorry that the troubles have gone on so long and have been so severe.  I started having pretty mild RH this past summer while working as a chaplain at a teaching hospital.  Luckily, being a teaching hospital, I had access to the Medical Library in the hospital.  I found REAL infor on hypoglycemia in all its forms including RH.  I don't have them digitized at the moment, but I think everyone should share a copy with doctors treating them.  I will bring it to class in the morning and scan it into a pdf file to share. Good luck Rachael

Rhonda, wow interesting how its the opposite of what you've been told to eat for wls.  do you see a wls nutritionist?  id be interstred to see if she agrees with you eating that amount of carbs per meal with RHG to help control it.  thanks for keeping us posted on your progress with this.  its important for everyone to be informed of the things that can happen even years after surgery. hope youre feeling better!
