I'm trying to have 2 protien shakes for meals. I've always been amazing at having 64+ oz of water a day, my whole life, but I'm trying to follow the "rules" and have no water 1/2 hr before a meal and none for an hour after. and taking my time eating/drinking my meals. Yesterday I found that while focusing so much on drinking the protien shakes slow, I didn't have the time in get the fluids down. by the time i finish the drink, i have little time to drink water before my next meal. I'm just wondering how everyone juggles getting water in. i want to get this routine down before surgery. I'm a huge water gulper and am working hard on not drinking too fast, but I wonder if maybe I'm just going too slow. lol oye...

I use a 32oz water bottle that I fill 2x a day. I drink right up till its time to eat. All Dr's vary on this but I am able to drink right before I eat. I wait 30-60 mins and start drinking again. I get 32oz before dinner and 32 before I go to bed. I still drink a shake in the morning after I get up and take my vitamins.

Well, it's an approximate schedule. It doesn't work exactly like that every day.

Also, I work from home, so it may be easier for me than for some other people.

I am working on trying this as well, prepping for my liquid pre op diet to start next week.  If I start to drink first thing in the morning... by keeping a glass / bottle of water next to me, its easier... then I seem to be able to do the 64oz during the day.  But if I have something that messes with my schedule... like a dentist appt yesterday... then I do not seem to be able to finish the 2nd 34oz bottle.  I am also a gulper so to speak, so working on sipping and getting used to keeping the water next to me at all times.  It also helps I have pretty much eliminated other drinks (coffee, tea, soda, juice).

I have been buying the 1L (33.8oz) deer park water bottles at the corner store in the morning, but that is going to get expensive soon, so planning on buying a few reusable bottles this weekend.  However, I used to spend that much per day on soda or something from the snack machine, so at least this is better!

I think the goal is the important thing, and keeping the water next to you.  It goes through you so fast, I will have to experiment with the not drinking during meals, especially after surgery.

My protein drinks count toward my fluid intake.  I don't worry about not drinking before my meal then I wait 30 minutes after.  You have to drink all day long.  There is enough time in the day if you have a great big bottle or tumbler just keep plugging away.

Kristen,

I wait about 2-3 hrs between my meals and sip water during that time. IMO, if it is taking you 2-3 hrs to drink your protein shake you are drinking it way to slowly.
