i hate this...
This time last year, i was around 285lbs.. my highest weight ever.. I have dieted and exersized relgiously my entire life.. I was diagnosed with insulinr esistance when i was 5 years old, after 2 years of fighting with doctors (on my parents end) to figure out why i was gaining somuch weight... and i've constantly gained, despite many efforts including my own.
Also, this time last year, i went to a new doctor.. an endocrinologist.. they did a lot of tests, switched my meds around, and with me changing nothing.. i dropped down to 250lbs almost immediatley.... but i had already started the process for bariatric surgery, and the weight loss stopped there.. nothing changed.. I didn't want the lapband.. and honestly the bypass kind of scared me.. i didn't like the idea of my stomach just sitting insideof me, rotting away. So I went with the sleeve..
I've had absolutely no complications.. It's been perfect.. No food intolerances,d oing everything i'm supposed to.. Probably not as much exersize as i should have.. but the past fwe weeks i've been doing better.. it's closing in on 5 months now.... and i'm only down to around 215lbs...
250-215... 35lbs...? in five months?
A few timesibrought this up with my endocrine, and the doctors at my surgeons office... and the people at my surgeons office wanted me to lose more.. at the time iw as averageing less than 2lbs a week.. this was 2 months ago.. it's probably less now... i figured it was my lack of exersize.. so i bumped it up.. and still.. nothings changing..
I had the slight worry before surgery.. that a restriction-only procedure wouldn't work.. because i have done so much my entire life with little to no results.. but i went into it head on doing everything i was told... and none of this is making sense.
Anyone else have this issue? /: I seriously don't know what to do.. I have my 6 month follow up next month and i'm sure they'll be extremely disapointed.. as am i..
Don't get me wrong. I"m really happy i've lost 35lbs! plus the 35 i lost pre-op because of the medicine.. i havent ever lost this much weight in my life.. i'm grateful for it. I just.. I don't know.. I had hoped for more loss by now.
Oh: andfor anyone who asks... 64+oz fluids.. 60+gm protein... 4 small meals a day of a cup(8oz) or less... 1-2 snacks if i'm low on protein or my blood sugar islow.. under 50 carbs a day.. less than 700 calories... I'm on 500 2x day Metformin, 50 1x day Synthroid, Multivitamin, Vitamin D, B12Shots, and Calcium Citrate.. I was taken off Aldactone after surgery, because my blood pressure is better now.. its in normal range.. but yeah..
My doctors all know the loss is slow.. but no one is saying anything or doing anything to help me.. They're just saying keep it up.. but it's slowing down.. frustrating...

Dear Ashley, I can certainly understand your feelings. I have been in the notorious 3rd week stall for nearly two weeks now and I'm stress about that. Are you being assertive enough do you think with your doctor and dietitian? I'm sorry that I'm not any help, hopefully there will be others more familiar with your type of experiences and challenges that will see your post and respond.
Keep fighting the good fight. Like I keep telling myself the law of physics dictate that when there are more calories being expended than taken in there has to be a loss of fat. ~Nann

VSG on 02/04/12 with
With the other issues you have, have you considered the duodenal switch? for those that aren't able to lose enough with the sleeve it is an option to finish up the last half of the switch procedure, the sleeve is the first part. Anyway, I had a friend have it done so I don't know tons about it but you can look it up and talk to your Doctors about other options too. Good luck, has to be so disappointing! But really, good job on what you have lost!
That is the surgery i initially wanted... but my surgeon doesnt do it.. not many surgeons anywhere near me do, and i'm 16.. its hard enough to find a bariatricsurgeon to work ona minor as is... forsleeeve, much less duodenal swithc /:
i've thought about going to another surgeon and asking... but i've heard most surgeons dont want to touch another surgeons work. so.... i dunno. /:
thanks though. (:

Ashley, great job so far!
I know insulin resistance all too well. I have it (and PCOS) and it's no fun. It's great that you did respond somewhat to meds by dropping the first 35 lbs - my body did not respond at all.
I'm no expert, but after reading your run down of daily intake and issues the only suggestion I have is to consider further lowering your carbs. Perhaps <50 is not strict enough for your body. You might try <30 or even <20. I know my weight loss completely stops quite easily with carb intake.
Good idea to call your Dr, though. S/he may have some ideas or further testing that could be done.
Good luck!

I've wondered about that too.. It's hard to get all the protein in with less than 20 or 30 carbs though. But yeah. I'll try lowering my carb intake and talking to my doctor.

Oh that is annoying it cut me off. Anyway.,.
I have not had my revision to VSG yet so you can tell me to shut up. But I was noticing you said you would eat 4 small meals of 8 oz or less, I have noticed a lot of others seem to eat 1-4 oz max. I also do not know what foods you are eating, are you eating dense protein first, etc.
Also given your history of symptoms and problems I wonder if you have been tested for Cushings syndrome? Seems like a possibility but I admit I am not a Dr. nor do I play one on TV. Ask about Cushings. They can often operate on your pituitary to fix it. But it causes unexplained weight gain like you are talking about.
other than that I can't do much but wish you good luck and support!! And a hug.
