Hi there. I have had dumping syndrome twice in three days. I thought we were not "suppose" to do this. I think I kno what happened yesterday. Cereal goes down well....I tried a diff kind and low and behold it had 6 grams if sugar...Tuesday.....I didn't have sugar. I get dizzy, rapid heart rate, nauseated, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. Its awful......im scared to try anything!

I don't know how far out you are, but are you drinking the milk with the cereal? I've never dumped on sugar, but I did develop lactose intolerance with milk, and experienced the same symptoms.

Anyone can dump. Even people without altered stomachs.

I experienced the same thing until I eliminated lactose from my diet, and ever since then--no problems. Silk soy milk has been a life saver. Good luck to you.

Google "reactive hypoglycemia"...anyone can get that. I had it once I lost a substantial amount of weight (70 lbs) but after a month or two my body stabilized and it resolved. Havent had it since xmas.

Get a blood glucose monitor and check your sugars when it happens. Mine was very low, like 47, and it can be dangerous.

Good luck to you.

I dump on fat foods. I have to watch how much fat is in my foods or I will be going for ever. I also dump with milk.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Prior to surgery, I used to "dump" if I ate too much sugar or fat. You may be lactose intolerant. I don't how far out you are, but some cereals are also high in sugar and not a good source for protein.  Have you checked with your doctor?

Sometimes we can PROLONG an episode of dumping. An episode should never last more than 12 hours...max...so don't prolong it! Get on track with YOUR DRS. ORDERS diet asap, my just post op diet was to avoid cereal grains....just because you can tolerate a food doesn't make it a good choice. BUT.....

US VSGrs CAN and DO DUMP!! It IS quite UNCOMMON...IT DOES HAPPEN!
Majority of best VSG SURGEONS are AMENDING their description of VSG from NO DUMPING to and reporting...MINIMAL OCCURANCE.

Me...3 episodes within 6 months. POST 6 months...NEVER AGAIN!! HOMESTASIS!! YEAH!!

Dumping is scary for sure...some peeps wind up in the ER its that scary! It was for me! I rode it out....I too was worried about what can I eat..so I don't dump...I never knew...when it would hit. I have to eat right! I just kept pluggin along! ........

in VSG...we suffer from ALIMENTARY HYPOGLYCEMIA....a type of reactive hypoglycemia...where YOU CAN DUMP ON ANYTHING!! protein, lo fat, sugar...DON'T MATTER!! it can happen with ALL GASTRO surgeries...not just WLS. It can HAPPEN in people that NEVER have gastro surgery too! DON'T matter the FOOD!

Foods I dumped on ...inc. 1/2 can 98% FF cream of chicken soup, just post op I lived on the stuff!...at 4 months out ......dumped on it! There is was...in the toilet staring right back at me! Had it a couplea weeks AFTER I dumped on it...and NUTHIN!

I also dumped on 1/2 can of CHILI (ground beef ..no beans)...less than 5gms of sugar. at 5.5 months out!

Now that you have experienced TRUE DUMPING (all the symptoms!)...heads up to other occurances...hopefully NOT tho!
Ya gotta ride it out! and not prolong an episode! Follow yer doctors orders as best ya can.....yes you will be able to eat cereal again. Keep yer FLUIDS super HIGH following an episode, and stick with protein as primary food following.
Check into a COMPLETE Probiotic also to replenish your beneficial gut microflora...will help with digestion issues. YOUR GUTS ARE STRIPPED CLEAN of microflora...with our IV antibiotics..during VSG.

I had a couple of dumps too. I think it was because I ate too soon after my protein shake.

I"m at 4 months out, and have dumped twice.  Both times have been after going long times between meals, both times have been with soup, and both times I'd eaten entirely too fast.  Lesson learned!
