Yea!! I'm going on a field trip with my 9 year old grandgirl's school on Friday! 100+ 3rd graders, should be lots of fun!!

My delimma is food storage. I usually eat chicken salad for lunch but I'm not sure how to store it so it wont go bad before we eat lunch. Normally I take my food/snacks to work in either ziplock bags or plastic/lidded container but I'm completely at a loss on this one. ANY ideas would be appreciated!

This will be my first field trip with a group of kids since WLS. The last one was 2 yrs ago to the zoo and thought I was going to die before it was over. Now I'm not worried, I know I can keep up with those little boogers!!

Thanks

Sounds like a lot of fun! I would just put your chicken salad in small container with other goodies and put in ice packs around it and then pack it in a personal cooler with a shoulder strap. Voila!!
Later you may want to get a Bento Box. Love mine!

Or take a food storage Thermos (they make them), let it and the chicken salad sit in the fridge overnight, and it should stay good and cold the next day until lunchtime.

Insulated lunch sacks are under 8$, put a frozen blue ice of an appropriate size in the bottom and pack your lunch as you like.  It will stay cold pretty much all day.  I pack my grandsons lunch like that everyday.

Amazon.com sells this Bento laptop lunch box.  Do a search for it.  I found out about it at theworldaccordingtoeggface.com.  The girl who runs the website uses it.  she had RNY and posts all her recipes on the site.  Shes amazing.  I LOVE the lunch box.  It has little containers for storage and I put in a small ice pack and it stays cold.  I bring shrimp to lunch a lot and I don't even have to put it into the fridge.  That's how cold it stays with just an ice pack.  Good Luck!

I pack my lunch almost every day.  And I am still using protein shakes.  I only like them cool.  I use a regular insulated luch box.  I do put a chill pack in with them.  I find the ice packes that they sell in the pharmacy for a cold compress are best.  They are flexable even when they are fozen.  They do not freeze solid.  They are bendable and can wrap around a shake.  I have tried a few days to put one on top and one on bottom...it freezes my shakes.  That may work better in the ssummer.

You may also consider cheese sticks.  They can handle a little warmer temp.  Almonds too.  Also I have taken a small 3 oz can of tuna with me. I  like the white tuna.   I pick up an extra mayo pack when I am at fast food places that have them.  They store at room temp.  Also, I have just started taking an apple.  I keep a protein bar in the lunch bag also. All of these can handle room temp. No ice pack needed.

Enjoy the day

Thank you so much for the ideas! I greatly appreciate them. I will def be taking string cheese and almonds for my snacks. I was really just concerned about the chicken salad (it's a staple in my daily food intake). Thanks again!
