Hi! Not sure if there's a better place to post this or not since I haven't been active on the boards in so long. Here's a quick review
Had surgery 2006 lost the weight I wanted to by my year mark.  August 2007 found out I was pregnant after trying for 16 years. YAY Happiest time of my life. Had my son March 2009. I gained about 50 lbs lost some of it and then gained it back. So now Im 50 lbs over my goal weight and keep gaining. Saw the doctor and he said it was going ot be extremely difficult to lose the weight again and since seeing him have gained 10lbs. Im grazing and eating fatty foods. Since I just feel awful about myself I''ve lost all energy and jsut feel YUCK
I want to state though that the surgery was a success and would do it again in a sec. But never thought I would get pregnant.
Has anyone here been through this and what did they do to lose the weight?
From what i read once you've lost a massive amount of weight your body doesn't want to do it again....
Just very discouraged and wanted some advice..
Thanks
Jamie

Oh honey don't give up. I have lost over 100 lbs many times so far in my life. You can do it! How bad do you want it??? Just clean out the junk in your cabinets and get your protein stocked up. You still know what to do. You will feel so much better. JUST DO IT!
I don't have any regrets, they can talk about me plenty when I'm gone....Bob Dylan

Just my opinion but I personally think that Dr. Atkins was right. It is not necessarily fat that makes you fat, but white (or evil) bad Carbs.

Although you do not have the extreme restriction of a new sleeve, you do have a small fraction of the stomach capacity of "before the sleeve".

If you pull out your sleeve diet guide, and go back to the basics  (dense protein first, eliminate bad carbs, and minimize other carbs, reasonable on the fats, and not drinking for an hour after a meal, maybe 1 meal a day replaced with a protein shake) you have a fighting chance of reversing this especially with your sleeve's help.

I basically started doing this and walking an hour a day, and was able to loose 20 pounds pre-op with a regular stomach. It is now much easier with the sleeve.  You can do this, you have done it before!

Good luck, Mack

Jamie;

I had my stomach stapled in the 80's.  I lost 150 lbs in 10 months.  The minute I hit goal, I started gaining again.  I gained it all back plus 9  lbs.   I'm starting my journey of losing again.  yes, this time it's slower.  It's not easy.  I'm having to go to the gym and sweat.

Maybe try to go back to your immediate post-op diet and consider it a fresh start.

Hugs!

i think the other posters have said it right....

dont give up infact congrats for coming back and telling your story that is the first big step right there....
there is a 5 day pouch test why not try it and give your self a detox... then to address your grazing set a time limit of say 3 hours and instead of having 3 meals go for 6 meals a day but do not let your self eat if your 3 hours are not up... make sure you are getting in all your protein and all your fluids... also to keep your self accountable take part in the " what are you eating" daily post....
i think being part of a support group is also a big part of succeeding you can do this and we will support you every step of the way.

don't get discouraged by what the doc said. It's ALWAYS very hard to lose a large amount of weight. I once many years ago lose 147 lbs and kept it off for 10 years. I think had a hysterectomy, and it would seem no matter what I did, still ate the same, and exercised, the weight kept coming on gang busters. The problem was the same one your having right now. I hit that place where I just gave up, gave in to it. You have to go back to the beginning, and it IS hard, but you can do it. You still have your tool, start working it. I know that is easier said than done, but you still do have the right tools. You have to get in the right frame of mind to start again. Which means, drag the butt to exercise daily again. Start slowly, and built on that each week, and do the same with cutting out the carbs.Tackle that demon and you can do it again.
I'm with ya! We all are.

I agree with everyone......don't be discouraged...also, I think your doctor is talking from lack of experience. Of course you can lose it....our work is maintenance

Someone once said to me, when i said 'I can't wait for this to be over' referring to my weight batter, hhe said 'love, this will never be over for you, your whole life you will need to be on guard, losing it is right now, maintaining it, is forever'. That really hit home. There is no goal time....we get to a mark, and maintain, or lose more thhrough working out hard and diet...then we maintain. I was told that once i get to goal......whenever thhat is, then i pic a number, and if never go above it...if I do, I immediately work it off again.

Try to have a new headspace. You can lose that 50, sure it will be work, but losing it is doable.......then maintaining it. Lifestyle. Exercise at least three times a week to main, but every day to lose...... i betcha if you started a liquid diet again, you would lose it fast too...especially since your eating casually......

Anyway.... my 2c worth. You can do this. Join the benc again...stay focussed, and lets all get to it.

Hope to see you around on the boards and looking forward to watching your journey.

You say you're eating fatty foods....have you considered cutting your carbs? You would still be able to eat those foods and yet you would be losing weight, so maybe it's something to consider. It also goes along with the golden high protein WLS rule.

Grazing is tougher. I've already dealt with that a bit. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure the foods you are grazing on are healthy. A certain amount of grazing is okay if the foods are healthy enough.

Have you been tested for insulin resistance?  Here's a post I wrote about it.

How wonderful that you were able to conceive, and how frustrating to have to be fighting this 50 lbs again.  I read somewhere that it takes about 2 years for our bodies to go back to 'normal' after pregnancy, even with nursing.  That was my experience.  If you are nursing it is a great extra 'nudge' in burning more calories.  Even if you are not, this is a great time to knock off that extra weight - it is new weight and thus I believe easier to lose than if it had been around for a few years.

When I started looking into WLS I had two friends that went through it and adopted some of their eating ha*****anges.  This has really worked for me: I am presurgery and have lost 30 lbs by a) chewing my food 25-30 times and putting my fork down between bites and b) drinking LOTS of water - I have four 24 oz water bottles that I fill each day and add some of the "no-sugar flavor for 16oz" stuff e.g. Crystal Lite individual packets - it makes drinking the water much easier.  Instead of snacking I pick up one of these bottles - voila, no more snacking!

Go back to the basics you learned before your surgery... watch out for either/or thinking and beating yourself up emotionally for "failing".  Take a few minutes to become mindful at each meal.  Accept that it is tough, and hard, but there is no way out but through.  You've got a huge new bundle of motivation to be alive, healthy, active and vibrant...  You are capable of doing it, and you can do it.
