Two year surgiversary!

Two years ago I had the VSG and it has changed my life completely.  I started out at 282 lbs and I now weigh 135.  My journey was not an easy one.  They discovered a leak at about 2 1/2 weeks out and for ONE year I battled the leak trying several different methods to get it to heal.  My doctor finally tried an experimental surgery from Spain and fixed my leak.  Complicated surgery but it worked.  My Doctor Davidson from Dallas was truely an angel through all this.  I had his personal cell number and could call him 24/7.  The cause for my leak was a twist in my sleeve about mid way and where it was twisted was where the leak was.   The problem was that sometimes my sleeve would twist and other times it was okay so we could never really tell what the problem was until he did the open surgery a year out.

Enough of that....this past year has been pure heaven.  I have maintained at 135 with complete ease.  I have to admit...I'm not a strict follower of the RULES.  I do pretty much eat whatever I want just not as much as I used to.  I drink with my meals.  I still eat fast food.  I don't exercise.  I know this is not the way I should live but hey...it works for me for now and I haven't gained ANY weight in the past year.  I just quit eating the minute I feel full because I don't want to in any way stretch my sleeve.

Good luck to those of you who are considering this surgery and to those who are in the process of losing their weight.  This has been a gift I gave to myself that is priceless!

Thanks for sharing your story!  You have had wonderful success, even though it started out with the leak.  I'm glad to hear that you are easily maintaining.  I worry most about that.

Congrats!

You did it the hard way but did a fantastic job.  I am so encouraged by the fact that you are living 'normally' and finding maintaining easy.  THAT is what I am looking forward to.  Congratulations.

I'm just at 5'5 barely.  I used to get on here all the time the first year or so...it was a real big support for me.  It's kinda strange now that I don't get on her anymore.  I don't recognize many names much anymore.  I guess it's like that quote from the movie Shawshank Redemption..."Get busy living or get busy dying".  I've just been real busy LIVING!

Thank you, for getting back to me so soon...
I had read that people that are tall, may have a longer sleeve, and therefore may have a higher chance of getting a twisted sleeve...I see that is not the case, with you...I guess this is something that just happens, (sometimes) no matter your height..

Thanks, for sharing this and continued success in your wonderful journey of LIVING LIFE...!!!!

The last thing I told my Dr. before my sleeve surgery was to please give me the smallest stomach possible.  I wonder sometimes if my very small stomach was the cause of it twisting.  He said my sleeve was very small.  I told him since I was paying for it myself...to give me the smallest size possible...and he did!
