Hey peeps, I need help!

I have a cold for the first time since having RNY.  I know Day & NyQuil have sugar, and that was what I used to take.  I know this has been answered before, but I just don't have it in me to search.

Any suggestions on cold meds that work without sugar and motrin?  My nose is dripping something fierce, my throat hurts and I am alternating between freezing and sweating.

On a side note - being skinny has sure helped out with my immune system!  When I was a big girl, I was always sick with something!

Thanks you guys - I really appreciate your help

I haven't had the surgery yet but I bet you can ask the pharmacist if they can recommend something for you.
I hope you find some relief and feel better soon!!!

Thanks doll!  I am gonna go to CVS and ask!  I just didn't think of it!  My RNY was a revision from the band - how bout you?  What are you revising from?

My revision is also from band to RYN.  I have had two lapbands and I'm really ready to move on. My surgery is 4 weeks from today!

Hope you get some meds. and feel better =)

TWO bands?  Yikes!  One was enough for me!

Best of luck on your revision - it was the best thing I have done for myself!

My first band was a 4cc band and my surgeon, not the one who placed it, said it was too small and had slipped. I was miserable, throwing up all of the time. My newer band is 14cc's and with very little fluid I throw up almost daily. After a long discussion with my surgeon we both agreed that a revision to a bypass was the best way to go. I gave it my best try with the band but it has been almost three years of struggles and misery. My surgeon said that I should do very well with the revision and in some ways it will be easier than what I have been going through. I am excited about my revision and can't wait to move on!

Thanks for the well wishes, I really do appreciate it!!!

DAMN!  I see so many stories of people who stuck it out for YEARS with the band, and suffered the whole time.  Mine was a 10cc Allergan band, and as soon as I started getting fills, the reflux intensified - I had it before the band, and it never went away after the band.

I lasted 8 months - June 08 - March 09.  Lost a meager 15 pounds besides (talk about adding insult to injury).

I have lost 110 pounds and currently maintain between 106 - 110 now (I was maintaining between 108 - 111, but dropped two more pounds this week and haven't seen 111 in a while).  I am 5 feet tall and started out in June 08 at 216.

Again, if you have any questions at ALL, please ask away :)

When I first decided to have the lapband there wasn't a lot of info. out there. I met a woman who lives right around the corner from me at a support group meeting. She had her surgery a few months before I did. She didn't really have complications at the time but she was losing really slowly. Eventually she started having problems and had her band replaced. She is still miserable but our surgeon, we have the same one, isn't really supporting a revision to a bypass for her. I'm sure he has his reasons but I know she's not happy about it.

I have probably lost about 35 pounds in an almost 3 year period. I knew that weightloss would be slow with the band but this is not at all what I expected. My surgeon has been so incredibly supportive through all of this and that has made it a little easier. I feel like this experience has really prepared me for my revision and I am so ready.

Thank you for your support and don't be too surprised if you hear from me with questions especially as I get closer to surgery =)

I hate combo drugs.

Tylenol for the fever.
Sudafed (behind the counter for the good stuff) for the congestion.
S/F cough drops for the sore throat or cepacol for that.

Also, there is diabetic Tussin formulations cough syrup if you need it.  Tastes like ass, but.. it's sugar free.  Otherwise, regular Robitussin doesn't have TOO much sugar.

Or Nyquil pills.  Those are sugar free as well.

Also, the 4!!! hr Mucinex as needed.  I've only found it at CVS around here, but that's because I live in a crap-ass city, I'm sure.

 Remember, no time-release stuff.
