Upcal D for Dummies

I'm just getting ready to place my first order for Upcal D, and I think I want the packets because I can add them to bottled water or CL when I'm away from home.  Is there a downside to the packets versus the big canister?  Also, the cheapest price I've found was at Colonial Medical, but there is a shipping charge.  Does anyone ship for free?  Or can you find it at a health and nutrition store? As you can see, I'm powdered calcium challenged.  But I just had my calcium retested and I think it's going to come back tomorrow in the "she's cannibalizing her bones" range, because nothing has really changed since it came back that way in January.  I have concluded that the big ol' calcium pills I have no trouble taking are not really breaking down at all before they exit my pouch and land at the bottom (pun intended) of my intestines to constipate me.  So I'm ready for a change. Please tell me I won't taste it in my decaf coffee, CL lemonade, protein shakes (milk?) or even water.  Thanks!  You may now continue enjoying your RNY.  I know I am! Sally

I use the UpCal-D (when I remember....no flaming, please) and I can't taste it.  I have never mixed it in liquids, though, just yogurt, oatmeal, pudding, etc.

the canister is cheaper but I get the packets for convenience too. from what I've heard Colonial Medical is the absolute cheapest place to get it. you will not taste it in anything. Be brave (took me months to do this), dump a little bit on your tongue directly, mildly sweet, not bad at all, easiest way totally! (just don't inhale as you are pouring it on your tongue!) hope you like it as much as i do! judi

My suggestion with UpCal D is just to mix it in like 4-6oz of Crystal Light. Then I drink it quickly. I can tell a slight difference in the taste, but considering Crystal Light is pretty sweet anyway, I don't mind the taste.

I bought the canister and the packets, so that at home, I can use the canister (and it's cheaper too), and carry the packets with me.

I order  mine from AMAZON.COM but they ship it out from Colonial Medical so it's probably all the same. I've searched and wasn't able to find anyone with free shipping. I buy the can and the packets, I take the can when I'm home and use the packets when I'm at work or away, I usually end up using more packets than the can though. I just open it and pour it in my mouth and get a swig of water and swallow but it says you can add it to anything, I really like it and it doesn't taste bad at all only slightly sweet tasting.

I bought the canister ... I don't bother with the individual servings as I take 2 plastic bottles, pu****er in it,  and add the Upcal D to it.  Then I take it to work with me.   I wouldn't put the calcium in your tea or coffee as these beverages has tannins in them which prevent absorption of calcium. I just dump it on my tongue and take a drink of water or crystal light.  It really doesn't have a taste to it..like others have said, just slightly sweet. April
