HELP!- saline U/S coming up. Anyone had one? Also, need Clomid advice! Sry, kinda...
Hi ladies!
I've been TTC baby #3 since October 2010.
The past 2 months I've had reeeeaaaally long periods (13 days in December and NINETEEN days of bleeding this month!!!) ... My OB gave me an internal exam in additon to a transvaginal U/S and a traditional U/S to try to determine what was causing the excessive bleeding, but everything looked 'normal' (no fibroids, etc...)
We also did some hormonal blood tests and found out that (as of CD 21) my progesterone is very low, she said that means that I am either a)Not ovulating this cycle or b)Am going to ovulate late this cycle b/c it was pushed back due to my stupid long period.
Basically, what they would normally do to get hormones back in balance and 'normalize' my period would be to put me on 'the pill' for 3-6 months to get me back in the swing of things.... however, I am very very ready to get pregnant and don't want to go on birth control and have to wait that much longer to get pregnant (my youngest is about to turn 4, so there will already be a big age-gap)
So my OB suggested starting Clomid on my next cycle to try to speed things up (hey, pregnancy= 40 weeks of no periods so I am all about it, LOL)... It might seem strange to start Clomid after TTC such a short time, but with all this hormonal BS going on, I have a feeling we may not conceive on our own no matter how long we try, KWIM?
She wants to do something called a saline ultrasound before starting me on Clomid --- Basically, I guess they fill your uterus with saline and perform an U/S and that gives them a better shot at catching abnormal things like fibroids or polyps that they may have missed on earlier U/S's (fibroids and polyps can cause excessive bleeding and infertility so it makes sense)... so we aren't TTC this month because the saline U/S can't be done when you are pregnant, for obvious reasons. It kinda feels like a waste of a month TTC-wise, but I really want to figure out what is going on inside my body, so I guess it's worth it.
Has anyone had this kind of U/S? They told me it is slightly painful.
Also, I am REALLLLLLY interested to hear from others who have used Clomid, particularly those with low progesterone issues.... Did you need additional progesterone on top of the Clomid? What cycle day do you start Clomid? How quickly were you able to get pregnant (if at all) on Clomid??
THANK YOU in advance for any and all responses. I really appreciate your thoughts/input and accounts of anyone who has gone through anything like this!
Sorry about the novel! lol

Violet,
I haven't conceived on Clomid nor have I had the saline US. I just wanted to wish you the best. I totally agree with you that going on the pill is the wrong choice. It's like telling the Universe: No thanks... i don't want to get pg! and that's certainly not the message you want to tell anyone! Waiting a month is a bummer, but that will help ur dr get a clearer picture of what's going on in ur baby's home (putting those messages out in the Universe!)
Big hugs!

Thank you so much for the support and positive energy, Maryn! It means a lot!
It's funny how I had a totally predictable cycle and conceived in no time when I was 250 lbs, but now that my weight is healthy and normal, I'm a hot mess! But I guess things will happen when they are meant to happen :)
How about you? You getting ready to start AI again?

V: We'll just call you "backwards girl" LOL. jk. I'm still waiting for AF to get back into a regular cycle. My OB said I only need to wait 1 full cycle to AI again... so that's really 1.5 cycles. it's been 1 month since I mc'd and the dr told me it's usally 4-6 wks until I have AF and get back on track. So... prolly sometime in late Feb to early Mar we'll AI again. Right now, I'm just doing the anticipated looking everytime I go potty now. LOL
OMG a little painful is an understatement. I found it to be very painful but for a short time like 30mins then was fine. I also took clomid to concieve because I wasn't ovulating. After first treatment this time it worked.
10/18/07 RNY ( hw 305 sw 290 lw 189ish) St Joe's 08/14/14 RNY reversal to sleeve. I survived 3 leaks,4 operations and a feeding tube.
Yowza... That doesn't sound fun, but at least the pain was short-lived... I'm going to take 800mg of advil one hour before and hope for the best.
Please send me some of your Clomid baby-dust... I want to get pregnant first cycle so badly!!!
Did you have any side-effects from Clomid? I've read that some women feel really grouchy/moody from it.
Thanks,
-V

i was put on clomid after several tests one of the an hsg or something like that. I think that MAY be the test you are referring to. It DID hurt for a few minutes, but it could have been worse. Besides the dr. who performed it on me said it opens up your tubes and you are more likely to conceive for 6 months. Clmoid is for people who do not ovulate or have irregular periods, or unexplained infertility. If you do not ovulate correctly they generally put you on it from days 3-7. They will test you each month to make sure you are on the correct dosage. I myself did ovulate and had unexplained infertility so i was placed on it days 5-9. the purpose of this is to produce the best possible egg. I was skeptical of it because like I said i DO ovulate. However I conceived after my third round of clomid. I know theres a lot of hoopla to get on the pill, but hopefully it will work wonders for you, as it did me.
Thanks for responding!
Yeah, the other test I did (besides progesterone) was FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) on CD 3 and my OB said it looked "perfect"....so my cycle starts out normally, my period generally comes the day it is due, then- for whatever reason- my period lasts an unholy amount of time and I either don't ovulate or ovulate too late in my cycle. It's frustrating!
For my first 2 kids, we literally just stopped using condoms for a few months and it was like "bam! You're pregnant!" lol--- not so much now... kinda hard to find a day to TTC when you're constantly bleeding!
The Clomid thing was actually hoopla-free (other than this stupid U/S)... my OBGYN said we could try it (b/c I told her I wanted to "aggressively" TTC, lol) and I said "ok" and now it's happening.
I hope I am successful on it like you have been-- send me some baby dust! :)
Thanks!

Violet - I'm currently in the 2ww after my second round of Clomid. My first round of Clomid was in June 2010 and I got pregnant right away but sadly that pregnancy ended in a MC. We took a much needed mental health break as that was our second MC within 9 months.
We're ready to try again and jumped right into the CLomid.
Good luck to you. I'll be watching your progress ...
