Calcium with VSG

What have you found or been advised on?
Thanks.
Citrate! For all of us.
Carbonate is more chemically stable and requires more acidic environment to break down. With our small stomachs (I'm a DSer, i.e. I've got the same sleeve, VSGers get) amount of acid is limited, hence to obtain elemental calcium more effectively we all take citrate.
Though, VSG patients need to take less calcium supplements than RnYers and especially DSers, since calcium is absorbed in small intestine, which is partially bypassed in our cases, but is fully functioning with VSG.
Starting BMI - 62, current BMI - NORMAL!!!!!.
204 pounds lost!!!!
Thanks for sharing the info. I was never told anything regarding required supplements because ALL the education I was given pre surgery referred to RNY and post surgery (being required to attend Windsor clinic) they usually aren't even aware that I had VSG until I point it out to them and then they are stumped about what to tell me. I have been taking a daily multi, vitamin D (my levels have always been low in winter) and calcium chews (they are like a daily chocolate treat or snack). After reading the boards I did begin using B12 strips but not on regular basis. All of my blood work has come back fine including the most recent done 2 years post op.
Good luck with your surgery. I LOVE my sleeve!
