Had my surgery at TEGH with Dr. Cyriac on Wednesday, Feb 22 @ 9 am. Wednesday evening I was feeling entirely sorry for myself and wondering what the heck have I done to myself! Thursday was painful - as some of you have said "That is to be expected."

I was walking on Wednesday night after going to the bathroom and also walked about five times on Thursday. TEGH is an old hospital and after 9 am and lights out, it is a bit spooky - I loved tha - walking the halls after 9pm. :o) Friday at 11 am I was discharged and couldn't get out of the hospital fast enough. My daughter got my meds and we went to the local Days Inn in the Beaches - great spot - I would recommend it to anyone. The beds are so comfortable! Decided that I would try a costco shake along with my water - that wasn't a good idea. Had less than 100 ml and spent the next three hours with a pain in my esophagus, foamies and throwing up. Drank water on Saturday. :o) Feeling much better on Saturday - no pain meds after Friday evening and have not taken any since then. Walking was easy and I flew home on Sunday around noon. Was SO NICE to get home!!!

Been doing very well since coming home. Getting 1.5 L of water in every day - no problems with drinking and Slowly Eating breakfast, lunch and supper. Very small portions and watery and sloooowly eating. I have protidiet flavour pouches for my water - they are already liquid and have 15 gms of protein in each pouch. Slow and Easy is the name of the game.

I'm on one prevacid fast tab every day for six months to stop heartburn and prevent ucler formation. Taking my chewable vitamins as prescribed by Mary at TWH. Walking and sipping. No troubles with bms. So I can say that Life is Good and I made the right decision! Have already lost 30 pounds since starting Optifast on Feb. 1.

Belly is extremely itchy where the steristrips are - will be easing those off tomorrow in the shower.

Thanks everyone! I hope others who have also just had surgery are doing well too!

You can see their product line at www.protidiet.com  I get my supply from my bariatric doctor, Dr. Benedek, here in the Sault. She provides their products at a very reasonable price point - much lower than I have seen through Internet providers. Unfortuantely, Dr. Benedek is closing her office so I ordered a bunch of concentrated drink mixes from her - about 21 boxes of 7 pouches each in the 7 flavours offered. It's made in Canada in St-Eustache, Quebec.

1 pouch (30 ml)

Fat  0.1 gm
Sodium  5 mg
Potassium 10 mg
Carbs 2 gm  (37 mg of sucralose per serving but does have fructose)
Protein 15 mg
Vit C  2% of daily requirement

I put this into 500 ml of water and it's good. I'm drinking 1500 ml of water at the moment, so an easy way to get 45 gm of protein without too much effort.

Thanks Uschu.. I will definately look into this online store.. - seems it may be the easiest way to initially get in your required protein, .. and a variety of flavours may assist with getting the water down..

Thanks again,.. and best of luck on your progress..

Hey Uschi!

So pleased this is all going according to plan.
As for your itchiness -
I had developed a little bit of a fungal infection under the Steri-Strips, but it was just minor.
The itchiness drove me crazy, but medically it wasn't terribly important.
I just used some antifungal cream on it, and it was fine.

Best of luck, and congrats on getting THAT part of your journey over with.
