Way OT: Mixed Race boys hair ideas?????

Can anyone out there help me with ideas for my 6 year old sons hair.  I have NO idea what to do with it. He is african american and white and has big loose curls.  I usually bathe him at night and by morning where ever his head laid most of the night is stick straight.  I usually spray some StaySoFro on it.  So we have a nappy/straight thing going on when I don't have time to do his hair in the morning (which is 99%of the time).  He wants to grow it out - but I don't have a clue about what to do. Any ideas on products or ideas so that I don't have to spend forever getting his hair ready in the morning?  My husband is clueless because his hair is very tight curls and I'm clueless because I've got white girl straight hair - LOL. Help please!!!! Thanks in advance! Jules

Hi Jules, I'm no help on the bi-racial aspect BUT I'd suggest going with a short cut for convenience and maybe make a deal with him that when he gets old enough to care for his own hair then he can grow it out.  Maybe let him try over the summer break to care for it himself and then as soon as school starts and time is even more precious in the morning do the REALLY short cut if he hasn't mastered the hair thing on his own?  Another thought is to go REALLY short on the sides but let him do those cute little dreads on top like the counting crows singer (do I have the right group named)? Lost of luck!

We have always done the short - almost shaved do - but I think he is starting to realize that the girls like it when his hair is grown out.  I have myself a ladies man!!!!  As far as him doing his own hair - LOL - that would be a joke - the kid has NO skills!!

Hey Jewels, I use gel, the cheap stuff and hair grease (blue magic) together, on my hair and my kids hair, works wonderfullyMy hair is wavy and my kids hair is curly,

I'll give that a try.  I love your little fro guy - that is kind of what my son looks like now - except half would be stick straight!!

stay soft fro isn't really for soft loose curls like your son's, btw i bet he's a real beauty :-). try LiV or All Ways Natural creme moisturizer. In the natural hair section of the store.
he doesn't need heavy oily stuff on his head. try using those products and rub them in, bru**** to distribute evenly. it'll curl up all on it's own all soft and moist and curly.
maybe, MAYBE run your fingers through it.
hope that  works fo you

Thanks - my husband bought the Stay Soft Fro - I didn't have a clue.  I'll look for the other types.  Oh and thanks - my son is a cutie!!!!

Jewels is his hair like my grandsons in this picture? If so we spray Johnson and Johnson detangler on it and then I pick it out with a pick real quick in the morning since I have like 15 minutes to get him ready and on the bus in the morning

Fro.jpg picture by jewelsprings This is a recent pic - you can see the straight mixed in with the curly.    Your grandson is a doll!!!!  Do you spray the Johnson and Johnson on while it's dry or wet?
