So i am scheduled to have the revision on the 20th and am really excited and also a bit scared. My Surgeon wants 120 grams of protein as soon as I can get to it so I have bought some protein powder and the below powdered multi vits. Anyone have any luck with either? Any kind words or thoughts about the surgery are also appreciated.

ALLMAX Nutrition IsoFLEX Whey Protein Isolate Chocolate With Real Chocolate Chips -- 5 lbs

New life Bariatric supplements Powder Vitamins - Lemon-Lime - I was told by my dietician that this 3 times a day plus b12 is working great for DS patients as far as their lab work coming back good.

Oy-vey!  Be VERY careful.  Barker is NOT on the list of experienced revision surgeons and is not even thought of as a good virgin DS surgeon around here.  Do your research....her is the list of experienced true RNY-DS revision surgeons:

Dr. Keshishian, located in California

Dr. Rabkin, located in California

Dr. Stewart, located in Texas

Dr. Simper, located in Utah

Dr. Elariny, located in Virginia

Dr. Roslin, located in New York

Dr. Buchwald, located in Minnesota

Of course, the above doctors are in the United States

Dr. Baltasar, located in Spain

Dr. Marchesini, located  in Brazil

Dr. Gagner in Canada and Dr. Greenbaum are also experienced surgeons, but please use caution, and RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to wish you well but I'm worried. I do like the protein shake recommendation but those vitamins will likely fall short. What about calcium and iron for example? DSrs need a lot more vitamins and minerals than an RNYr and that recommendation seems very very low. Please check out the DS recommendation on www.vitalady.com.

My guess is that you will get an ERNY.  In other words he will give you more malabsorption but leave your pouch as is.  This is not a DS and is the worst of both worlds.  The need for tons of protein and a pouch that probably won't tolerate enough.

The vitamin list is ridiculous.  That could kill you, really.

Please get him to show you EXACTLY what he is going to do.  If he is not going to reconnect your remnant stomach and then make a sleeve he is NOT doing a DS.

I don't think he's ever DONE a real DS revision.

Scared for you.

beemerbeeper.....Please tell me where you get your thoughts on him never doing a DS before?????? you responded in this post and in my post about dr barker and don't know any real facts to this.  i don't understand telling people these things without fully researching your statements.  especially pateints that are fearful of their preocedure. He has done full DS's for over five years now and went over step by step what my procedure will be like and he does resize the pouch. i know are you all are trying to help but giving wrong information and information that is not researching is hurting TONS more then helping. TONS of you vets have been so helpful in showing me that Barkers recommendations for vitamins are way off but as a surgeon, he is VERY erperiences with all types of WL and revisions.

I just wanted to mention that in revising to a TRUE DS....there is NO pouch.  The surgeon would reattach the pouch to the remant stomach and THEN form the SLEEVE which has a pyloric valve.   I know it is hard to move from thinking of it as a pouch to thinking of it as a fully functioning stomach, lol.  But that is what it is.  And on the off chance that 'resizing your pouch' is what Barker is doing and not reattaching it to your remant stomach and then forming a sleeve.....you would not be getting a TRUE DS.

Ok...I went back to check what revision you are having and I see you are having a VSG to DS revision.  A RNY to DS revision is on a whole other level.  Apples to oranges Caligirl.  Barker IS NOT on the list of RNY to DS revision surgeons and no one here will ever recommend him for this type of revision.  WHY?  Because it is the most complicated, most highly technical revision there is.  ALL the other revisions are a cakewalk compared to a RNY to DS revision.  So, please, do not chime in with info that YOU have not researched.

first of all.... I chimed in because this was sent to me as PROOF that Dr. Barker was not a good sleeve to DS revision Dr from a person telling me how horrible Dr. Barker was.... my question would be... WHY would someone send me this string if it has nothing to do with my revision and then you ask me not to chime in.  TRUST ME i have done my research so no need to put that in all caps for me..... i wrongly assumed it was from sleeve to DS because that's how it was sent to me.  You are right, i don't know anything about the RNY to DS revision because that's not what im getting.  I think all of us do our research and then have to make our own decisions and go from there.  I have just been very frustrated about some of the vets who have made very uneducated and no fact based comments towards Dr. Barker as a surgeon.... yes with vitamins and other things he may have some work to do but as a surgeon, i completely trust him.

I will completely trust Vets on vitamin issues and after op care but geese there are sure some giving surgeon advice that have absolutely no basis or knowledge about what they are saying.

and i was chiming in also about the statement 'I don't think he's ever DONE a real DS revision.'...... completely a uneducated statement and misleading to the patient

Barker would not be my first choice or even my 10th choice for a revision. He just doesnt have the experience. You have Dr Stewart right there in Denton...a much better choice. Lots more experience.

Also, dont buy such a large container of protein. Your taste will change alot after surgery. Initially fluids will be your top priority. A rule of thumb for protein is 30g by 30 days, 60g by 60 days and 90g by 90 days.

Remember, your stomach is a large incision...treat it easily for a few weeks so it can heal.
