OT: Skinny sis stumbled on my BLOG

OK, a little history.... I have been chubby/overweight since 1st-2nd grade.  Was 260 plus when I graduated HS in 1990 (yes, I am 39).  I reached my all-time high of 317 in 2001.  My older sis and I are the only kids, being raised by a single teenage mom, with 2 separate dads.  She was 98 pounds in HS soaking wet, prom princess, homecoming queen.  Small high school, so kids were CRUEL, as I was the biggest girl in HS.  Fast foward to after HS, no guy wanted anything to do with me out in public, so humiliating when I think back to the "any attention is good attention" attitude I had.

Anyways, my sis has had 4 kids, oldest one is almost 8, and a set of twins as well.  I have one child, and my DH & I are done having kids.  So, my sis has put on 50 pounds or so in the last 8-9 years from having kids, but has honestly just never fully understood being obese.

Last night, she tells me she wants to be supportive of me with me pursuing a revision from my 2002 RNY................ I am sitting there thinking...... OK....... I have never confided this in you, because I was honestly afraid of rejection and negativity, frankly because she has never understood my self-hate for my fat self.  Essentially, she caught me off guard.  She goes on to tell me that she was on the internet, and was googling Alaska and weight loss, and stumbled on my Obesity Help Blog, and read it.

Needless to say I was shocked & floored!!!!!  Glad for her support, but as alot of us on this site, sometimes we do not tell people closest to us our intentions.  I have been fearful to tell anyone/family close to me, because I have had the attitude that I had failed at WLS once, so everyone has seen me lose weight & gain 1/2 of it back.  I know know I did not fail, but that my WLS did, but how do you get ignorant people around you to understand that?  This is why I never said a word to her.  I have been working on getting my revision to a DS since 2009.  My appeal paperwork has been received at the secondary insurance as of this week, so, now I wait for my denial to become an APPROVAL with Dr. K in California.

WOW Jamie! IMHO, what a wonderful surprise. She could have easily gone the "other" way but didn't. I was always the "big" one. My sisters are no bigger then a minute. I was 346lbs. My one sister had twins and got up to 180 at 8 months preggo with 6lb twin boys. YEAH!! I get it!! I included them in my plans when I decided it was time and to my surprise they were and are VERY supportive. And it has really been nice having them to talk to about this journey. They are twins and I'm STARTING to look like them, kinda! AND here's the thing, They "GET" the DS!!!!! Like I said, it can be nice when the ones you think will never understand turn out to be pretty good support! Makes a world of difference!

So hope you hear some good news VERY SOON! I know you've had a long hard wait. It'll be worth it in the end girly! Good luck and Big 'ol HUGS!!!

Ruby,

I was definately shocked about my sis being supportive, since I had felt like I was viewed by my family as a weight loss surgery failure, as I was sure that they did not research, and come to the conclusion that I did, that the RNY was the wrong surgery for me to stay successful, and keep the weight off, ya know?  That was why I had kept everything a secret from them, not because she would not care, but, because I figured she had seen failure once.........

Yes, I agree about the "world of difference" in the support, too.  I have kepth this decision from her for over 2 years, and here I am, with her support!!!!!!
