Had surgery this morning and am even more confused then I already was. Was told it was a hernia Sun night here. Finally get pushed down to surgery and my surgeon doesnt even touch me, he says he is doing a lap and looking around. I also begged for a scope since I have been having awful burning pain despite Protonix 2x a day, but he said he wouldnt do one b/c even if there was an issue it couldnt be fixed until I lose all my weight. I was in surgery a little over an hour and am still groggy, but I am told there was no hernia but there was endometriosis he burned off and that he drained some cysts. Again totally confused how this would make me have that contraction like pain above my belly button and why one surgeon said he felt the hernia.

So to say the least I am totally CONFUSED. I asked why my Potassium was so low and they said from not eating/drinking and explained about not going #2 and said its because I am not eating but when I eat I throw up so I am just totally lost. He said I needed to make an appointment to come to his office to talk about switching PPI's but I have been on almost all of them. Honestly he seems like he just doesnt want to deal with me and I would like a second opinion but there i no one else around here. They are also trying to push me out of the hospital tonught, but I dont feel ready and want to see how I feel before going all the way home. Any ideas?

Oh my :-(. Yes, endometriosis can give you pain pretty much anywhere in your entire abdomen and chest. That darned endometrial tissue migrates. It's one of the curses of the condition. Were the cysts ovarian or what? Yeah, ovarian cysts can cause pain  amazingly high up your belly. Been there, done that, donated the damned things to medical waste.

The surgeon who felt the "hernia" might have been feeling cyst stuff or acting-out endometrial tissue.

So, that part of your post all makes sense to me. The potassium going into the toilet also makes sense. You don't eat or drink and you puke a lot, potassium is often one of the first things to go south.

I dunno about the scope stuff and not being able to get "anything" (huh?!) fixed till you lose all your weight. That's totally out of my range of experience. But I'm sure folks with mileage on them in that area will have thoughts.

If I were looking at a two hour trip home and not knowing WTF is going on or if I was going to be able to eat, drink, whatever....I'd refuse to leave and contact the patient advocate RIGHT NOW, before they go home for the night.

Hi! So glad to hear you are out of surgery. Interesting results. I have never had endometriosis, but if I am not mistaken, it can indeed cause a lot of pain. Cysts too. So, it is possible they were the source of your pain. I guess the other surgeon was mistaken when he said he felt a hernia. I am also a little confused about his refusal to do a scope. Do tell them that you have a really long trip home and that you do not feel up to leaving tonight. You will most likely feel much better by the morning.

Big hugs KimberlyHeidi. I know this has been a really tough time for you. Hopefully what he did do will relieve you of your pain.

I have PCOS and have always had smaller cysts and due to so much pelvic pain we actually thought I did have endometriosis but then I had a lap a few years ago and the found nothing no endo at all.

My husband said Dr E, said something about the ab muscles seperating in my chest which is why he thought the other surgeon that it was a hernia. However if it was just endo and cysyts I would except the pain to be lower than the belly button and not higher and thats why I am confused,

They just took me off my IV which I didnt want and told me to eat and drink on my own. First they brought me all kinds of breaded stuff with pasta and I told them I couldnt eat it and then I got a popsice with some mashed potatoes. I am still having a hard time trying to get food in and liquid down so I really would like my IV back.

I am waiting for a surgeon on call to come by and explain all this to me as I am just lost.

I went to a gyno a few months ago and years before for all these issues. They always thought I was making my pevlic pain up but I guess now they will know that its not the case.

I am just worried im going to end up going home and having to come back after all this.

I have no experience with cysts, etc., but EN makes sense.

Get a copy of your surgical report before you leave the hospital. That will tell you exactly what was done to you and where it was done.

Anything they said to you before they opened you up was just guesswork. If it doesn't fit with what was actually found, just forget about it.

Believe it or not, I got the most help from a fertility clinic with my PCOS - endocrinologist I went to knew nothing and my gyno wanted me to see specialist.  I would call fertility clinics in your area and ask if they have any specilization in PCOS and endometriosis if this is the problem.
