I have Medicare as primary and Aetna Open Choice POS II as secondary.  With Medicare, do you  have to go through 3 or 6 months of attempted weight loss pre-op?

Medicare does not have such a requirement, but your surgeon may.

Dr. Sudan also required a 6 month supervised diet when he practiced in Omaha. Dr. Anthone, just a couple of miles down the road, did not. Sudan claimed it was a Medicare requirement, but I think it was just his preference.

this is so weird, cause the prev surgeon I was gonna use for (RNY) said it was a medicare requirement also and I tried to argue the fact with him. I called medicare and was advised that it was not their requirement, when I told him that he said I didnt talk to the right person.  Maybe it has something to do with the Center of Excellence..IDK..(I dont know), but i only have this month and next month, but boy would I love to get around it...

Geez. You'd think that the doctors could at least agree on that.
