Seriously, Mary, I think it would be great if you posted there, even occasionally. I don't think anyone would see it as gloating.

It's funny because we tell pre-ops how normal the eating can be with the DS, but then a number of the people who post in those threads are fairly early-out or are trying to be accountable. I don't think it gives an accurate picture of the full spectrum of DS eating.

Oh My God Nicolle!  You just reminded that I have a steak and a baked potato in my tote bag here at work!!!!   HOw could I have been so stupid to forget about it?  Here I was all worried about what I was going to eat for a snack between now and 6, when my honors choir has to perform at a school board meeting, and I've got this wonderful food just sitting right here!   You wonder why your post reminded me of my steak?  Cause last night, we went to Ponderosa for dinner.  I don't go there much - I just never get my money's worth at buffets, and well..it's Ponderosa.  Anyway, I digress.  I ordered a flat-iron steak and baked potato, and it comes with this giant food bar.   I ate salad with lots o' cheese and sunflower seeds, baked chicken, a few bites of barbecue pork and some corn and that was it for this ol' gal.  I still had the entire steak and potato sitting there untouched.  Packed it all up, and now I have this AMAZING wonderful snack!   Anyway, I agree with you that we all need to post about the easy parts of the ds, because for me,  my life is 1,065% percent easier since pre-DS.  Even with all the vitamin D drama I've got going down, it's all about trade-offs.    Taking up so much space and being miserably obese and uncomfortable all the time took up most of emotional and physical energy pre-op.    So now I have to pop into my doc's office once a week to get pumped up with some D for thirty minutes.  Pffft....it took me that long to get up and down stairs when I was heavier.  Now I run up.

Hi, my name is Tammy and I'm a boring DSer.

At 4 1/2 months out, I have no complaints, issues, or problems. I eat very little because nothing really appeals to me, so I supplement with protein shakes, but if something catches my eye, I can certainly eat. No bathroom issues, and white flour is the only thing that causes gas. I only eat it when I know I'll be home at about the 2 hour mark, and I still find it extremely funny that I get to pay back my husband for the last 10 years...LOL.

I'm down from a 24W to a size 18, and have slid effortlessly and continuously down the scale for a grand total of 76 pounds so far.

I am loving my DS, but don't have much to talk about.
 Best Wishes,
Tammy

I am NOT boring! I do some CRAZY things I didn't do before, such as the following:

- Throw away extra food. Yes, EXTRA. As in unneeded, unnecessary. This used to be a foreign concept.
- Shop for clothes in non-plus size sections. I had no idea how affordable clothes were beyond the walls of Lane Bryant!
- Try on (and occasionally purchase) shoes with a HEEL. Okay, so my clutzy self prefers a wedge, but the point is that they aren't all flats, and I can wear them to work all day without my feet looking like sausages crammed into the shoes by the time I get home.
- Add extra butter to my food. And cheese. And sour cream. And mayo. And all the real, full-fat stuff. And *gasp* not feel guilty about it, especially with a total cholesterol level of 112.
- Feel full. Like, painfully full. I'm learning my limits. Prior to surgery, I pretty much had no limits. I could easily eat 2 entire meals from a fast food restaurant, complete with milkshakes. Or multiple sandwiches, snacks, and drinks from a convenience store all in one sitting. Now, it's a fast food sandwich with only 1/2 or no bun, MAYBE a kid's size fry.

Okay, so maybe those are all boring things. But to me, they're very exciting!

I will say that pre-op, I was SO afraid of the DS horror stories I'd heard. I started taking a probiotic before surgery in the hopes it would help to reduce and post-op gas/diarrhea issues. I had packs of flushable wipes in each bathroom. I had cans of strong, oil-based air fresheners in each bathroom and in my purse. I had an unopened box of Gas-X awaiting my return home from the hospital.

And I didn't need ANY of it. Some of us really ARE boring!

I had a very boring, recovery (both DS and plastics).

When I read stuff about old time DSers not knowing about flagyl and not knowing about calcium, it makes me shiver. Thank god for the info we get on this site.

Yes this is not a "medical site" but we can glean some great info and see what things are working for others before it becomes too late.

I forgot the not so boring part - for all the MO or SMO with no love life . . . . just you wait!  The more serious, personal story - I was madly in love in high school, but maybe he wasn't, or maybe he was just too young - who knows.  We had a daughter when I was 16 (he was 17), but didn't continue the relationship and went our separate ways.  I had a few worthless, short lived relationships between then and now, but nothing worth writing home about.  The dad and I have always sort of hung out in the same circle, I've always been close friends with some of his family, and we did remain friends, for the most part.  Did he try and hit on me a few times over the years?  Sure enough.  But I didn't have the 'me' acceptance and just couldn't go there.  Well, a year ago, I 'went there' and haven't looked back!  Finally, where I should have been 30+ years ago - the DS rocks, and it did wonders for my head!
