Topic: RE: WHAT ARE WE WEARING THIS SUMMER PEOPLE?
I have a couple of these sheer covers that I bought form Chico's last year. They're nice if you want just a little bit of coverage, like at work. I'm actually wearing one now.

My big change is going sleeveless. If the batwings offend somebody, they can just get over it.

I will never ignore pain like that again. My followup doctor's appointment is on Friday.

If you're physically hungry all the time there might be some kind problem with your pouch or stoma. Have you seen your doctor to be evaluated?

I ignored and explained away the pain
So did I, but never again!

You know what? I was at the hospital when it happened - a bariatric center of excellence.
The ER staff was still clueless.

Clinical Pearls for Emergency Care of the Bariatric Surgery Patient
A while back someone shared this link from the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons: http://asmbs.org/poster.html
I'm printing a copy of this TODAY to have in my wallet and also saving to my thumb drive to keep on my key chain.
I'm also ordering a copy of my original operative record so that if I am out of town and there is an emergency, they will know my anatomy and how to treat me.

Yep.
Me.
Over the past few years I've had bouts of abdominal pain, but was always able to manage it by drinking a little hot beef consomme or maybe changing clothes if my waistband was a little too snug. This time was different.
On Wednesday morning nothing I did would make the pain stop. My stomach was hurting so bad that I could even feel it in my back.
I was doubled over and then curled up in the fetal position crying like a wimpy little ****** and I didn't care who saw me.
They were moving slow in the ER. It seemed like it took forever to see the doctor. He ordered a CT with contrast. By the time I got to the imaging department though, whatever had happened initially had started going back to where it was before and the pain started easing.
The ER doc called in a WLS surgeon for consult and they kept me overnight. The CT showed some swelling in the mesentery and my lactic acid levels were more than double normal values. The surgeon said that this is a marker of tissue being deprived of oxygen. He felt like it was either something herniated that slipped back into place or else my gut twisted temporarily. I have a followup appointment scheduled in two weeks. I just came back to the office today.
Happy Thought: It resolved itself and I didn't have to have emergency surgery.
Scary Thought: If it hadn't resolved itself, because of the delay in treatment in the ER, I could have lost a piece of intestine or DIED.
Lessons Learned:
-No matter how far out you are post op, S#IT can happen.
-Don't delay going to ER if there is serious pain in the gut.
-Call the surgeon to meet you there before you go.
-Tell the ER doc that as a post op RNY, you are at risk for bowel obstruction.
-INSIST that they treat it as a true time-dependent emergency.
I thank God for sparing my life and allowing me to share my story with you all.

Thanks, Lee.
You live the way I do and also how I'm trying to teach my stepdaughters. If I can't afford to pay cash for it, I don't need it. Debt is slavery.

Topic: RE: Waaaaay OT - Financial Questions
I recently met a young couple who are struggling financially. He was laid off from his job and she's doing temp work. When money was coming in on a regular basis, they didn't save anything, just expected it to keep coming, I guess. Right now his mom is paying his car note. I'm not sure where the rest comes from. They have some debts and were thinking about filing for bankruptcy. My gut response to that was it seems unfair to skip out on your obligations, but then again, the bill collectors aren't calling my house.
Does anyone know how bankruptcy works? Doesn't it blemish your credit for like 7 years?
Also, I've read that some credit counseling services are crooks and people can wind up worse off. How would they go about finding someone reputable?
I am not a financial advisor, so I don't know how to direct them. Neither of them had even seen a copy of their credit report. I recommended that to them as a first step.
