LOL!  Hey fam!  I've always said God repeats things to you until you get it - and man - ain't that the truth!

I've been hearing 'give of yourself' in different ways for quite some time.  I've been offered opportunities to volunteer, to do extra projects, and I'm still pursuing my college 'coffee talk' series on Corporate Life.  I still had the feeling I hadn't really done enough........

A lil background - I've lived in my house in my neighborhood all my life - it's a very stable area - everyone here has been here or like me, they bought their home from their parents and remain.  My neighbor across the street has watched me grow up and is now watching my daughter.  I've known him all my life, he's kinda like a Grandpa/Dad to me.  We aren't terribly close (I ain't the mushy type) but if needed, we aid and support each other in times of need.

His wife of ofer 30 years died less than 5 years ago - and I saw the wind out of the sail in that man - my heart just hurt for him, they were an Ossie and Ruby type couple, just lovely.  Anyway, he's now on his own and his health is kinda declining, he was diagnosed with diabetes and has to be on insulin.  He's a very active guy - works out and does yard work, matter of fact, he's helped me with yard and other things around my house over the years - I paid him what I could when I could but it wasn't ever an issue.  Still - I know I owe him for all he's done for me - not that he'd ever say so.

Anyway (and I promise I am coming to the point) he was putting yard refuse on the curb for me and mentioned he had a doc appt to review his insulin - he hadn't been doing his shots because of a mental issue - he just can't stand to self administer them.  I talked to my mom about it - she's ben diabetic since I was a teenager - she called and talked to him to get him on track.  She said he was trying to find someone to admnister the shots - I said I could do it - once in the morning, one in the evening - she hadn't remembered I had to learn how to do them when she first became diabetic.  She didn't think I would or had time........

My reply?  For all the years of care, comfort and help he has provided me and now my daugther - it is the very least I can do.  I'm concerned about his health and if I can help him in any way - it is my honor to do so.  I feel blessed to be in a position to do something in return for the gift he has been to me.

So - first shot this morning!  And he was so happy - it hadn't occured to him that I could or would do this for him - he didn't want to bother me.  Bless his heart - I told him I'll be helping him as long as it takes, which is until he can self administer and stay on track.  No time limit.

Give of yourself.  I hear ya Lord!  I hear ya.

Thanks for listening fam!!!!

That is AWESOME!  Thank you for sharing this story.  I tell people all the time you would be surprised of the "little things" you can do for someone that makes such a "huge" difference!

hey Faith!  yes - it is the little things.

like me doing my mom's hair - she has had trouble since her stroke years ago and she stopped washing it like she needs to - I saw up under her wig a year ago and was like WTF?  Told her to have her behind at my house on Sundays.  Again, for all she does for me - it's the least I can do.

even when she's on my LAST DAYUM NERVE - she should still have clean hair.
