Mind Matters

Back On Track To Your Personal Goals
by Cathy Wilson, CLC

As weight loss surgery patients, we focus on our weight loss goals and work hard to stay on track to maintain a healthy lifestyle.. Why not apply this same mindset and  thinking to our personal goals?

Consider the similarities between getting back on  track with weight loss surgery habits and reaching your  personal goals.  When you make the decision to get  back on track and stay on track, you decide on the steps to take or habits to change to reach your ultimate goal. When you have set a goal and you find yourself off track in a particular area in your life, you list the action steps to take to create the habits to reach your goal.  For weight loss surgery, you would list the action you need  to take and habits to change such as to stop grazing, eat more protein and less carbohydrates, increase exercise and drink 64 ounces of water each day.  By taking these actions you change your habits and before you know it, you are back on track and successfully at your goal. If your goal is to change your career, you would list the action steps you need to take.  In your brainstorming, you list taking additional classes, networking with other professionals in your chosen field, research companies you’d like to work in and other similar steps.  By taking the action required you can create habits to pursue education, research and  study in your new field and become immersed in the process.  The success of accomplishing your goals is  achieved by following the strategy of “Setting Your Goal? + “Back on Track/Stay on Track? + “Action  Steps? + “Habits? = Reaching YOUR Goal!  Apply this Back on Track Strategy to any goal to reach success.  It works with weight loss surgery or any goal and dream you have.

Me Minutes

Decide on a goal important to you.  It could be to get back on track with your weight loss surgery habits, change careers, de-clutter your home, improve a relationship or any goal you have.  Write down the individual steps of action you can take to reach the goal.   From those action steps, list the habits you need to adopt or revise to reach your goal.  Now, you have laid down the preparation and have a plan.  All that is left is to celebrate the success in reaching your goal!
