Topic: RE: What Is Up With McD's Of Late?
I usually don't do McDonald's (except for some driinks from time to time) but I was so hungry the early a.m. yesterday that I drove through one for a quick Egg McMuffin, which I haven't had since long before being a pre-op .. I went to take a bite and it was NASTY .. like over 1/2 of it must have been a big "patty" of almost pure eggwhite (which I hate anyway) ..
It was like they poured the whites of 2 or 3 eggs into a form of some kind and boiled or baked it .. very little meat and cheese on it, relatively . I remember in the old days it was more yolkish, like a little omlette folded and put over a big slice of cheese and one of ham or sausage ..
Moreover, the McM + a cinammon roll (which I admit wasVERY good) set me back almost $5.00 ..
Last night I went back again and was curious to read their menu more carefully this time, as to the prices, esp. the $ menu .. Looks like a LOT of items have been removed from the $1 menu and now are more like $2+, including breakfast burritos, McMuffins, 6-piece McNuggets, and even small OJs ..
Is this really the result of high fuel prices, or just a popular restaurant gone greedy?
It looks like it's back to drinks only for me at McD's, at least for now!

Frankly, mine has gotten worse and I'm two years out as of next month ..
This even came up at work (again) yesterday, when the boss clued me in as to why our sec sometimes runs in and out of my office so hastily to give me something (I thought all this time maybe she just didn't like me
).
I think what's going on with me though is that I'm beginning to eat more and more of the "forbidden foods" (i.e. ones that cause gas, diarrhea, etc.) or in greater amounts than I ever did before, merely b/c I can and often out of boredom for something new (or something "familiar" as a pre-op) ..
We have folks on the DS board though that are 4 and 6 years out (or more) and they seem to have their actt together (supposedly), so don't let my situation scare you off .. It's still a great surgery and I would not have gone with any other kind if I had it to do again ..
It has allowed me to lose over 200 lbs. in less than a year, and keep it all off, within about 5 lbs. or so, as well as comletely and permanently cure my Type II diabetes, severe ob. sleep apnea, and to have SUPER-great blood lipid levels

Good point, Sandy .. I think my PCP is trying to get me to do that as well, but I don't know if I'd feel comfortable and be able to "open up" to someone I don't even know .. I'm a very introverted person in real life (too bad they don't have "onlne therapists"!)

BOY do I know that .. "Mr. Happy" is often not quite so errr happy .. since being on it ..
the really weird thing too is that it can also act like an "****** blocker", for want of a better term .. been there, didn't have that ..
Still, like I told some the other day, I'd rather be a little less "happy" than DEAD .. So I'll stick with the Cymbalta, at least for now ..
That reminds me .. I was standing in line a couple of days ago at my pharmacy to get my script refilled .. A young fellow behind me in line overhead what I was doing, and asked me how I liked Cymbalta .. His shrink had just put him on it that same day and was there for his first script (sounded like he had previously been on some HEAVY-DUTY psychotrophiccs, btw) .. It felt kinda funny trying to relay the above info. to him in public in "man code talk" without being graphic ..

Well, FL, like TX , IS a "community property" state .. (and conversely, a "community debt" state) .. So that probably has something to do with it ..
Now, if you're complaining about being single .. here's my phone # ..

You could always go in search of a good Kimchee place or take a tour of those factories where they make those things "made in Korea"
btw, while you're over there, I wish you could find someone who knows what the name is of those decadently-flavorful smoked pork steaks they eat over there ..
I ate some at a fastfood Korean place in Springfield, MO back in my college days, and can't remember it In English phonetics, it looked almost Spanish, like something like "Tegulcigalpa" or "Teguchape" or something .. I wish I could get those down here ..
btw, Springfield is the unofficial 'Korean restaurant capital of the U.S." .. due to church relocations of immigrants after the war and such in the area .. it supposedly has more Korean restaurants per square mile than any other city in the U.S.

Topic: RE: OT - Has Your Memory Improved Wtih Cymbalta?
Now that I'm been on this life-saving stuff (for me) for over six weeks now, I've noticed that my long-term memory seems to be improving (i.e. coming back).
The latest example of this phenomenon: I was thinking yesterday about a topic discussed in my Abnormal Psych class back in college over 20 years ago ... As part of the class discussion on that topic, we reviewed a rather landmark book written by a therapist in this rather controversial new form of therapy .. Suddenly I was able to remember almost the book's complete title and even the author's first name (nobody famous, exept as author of that one book, btw) .. I can even see in my mind how the author appeared in the pic of the cover of the book .. It's like having the proverbial photographic memory as to this one event ..
There's no way I think I could have remembered these details just two months ago .. I could sometimes barely remember what I did the hour before, then ..
Has anyone else experienced this effect after being on Cymbalta for awhile?

Are you feeding him all the food that you are now not able to eat since WLS?
Just a thought .. I can see how that can easily happen .

Topic: RE: Having A Cross-Addiction To Hard Drugs
I'm wondering how common that is, since we hear about the "lesser" cross-addictions on here from time to time, but it seems we never hear any cases involving WLSers that didn't do drugs at all before their surgery and now are really into it deep.
I don't really expect anyone to talk about their own situation here, given the sensitive subject matter,
but maybe you can (anonymously) relate some story(s) you have about friends or family who are WLSers that have fallen into it?
Were they eventually able to pull themselves out of the problem, and if so, how?

Ponit well taken. I noticed when I was in my surgeon's office in Brazil that the waiting room was PACKED with local patients .. I thought that odd, figuring that only the average upper-class Brazilian had the resources for WLS .
