Thank you for your post.  I really needed to read it today.  Yesterday was a bad, bad pain day.  Today is a little better but still bad pain.  I know it will be worth it long-term but pain management is very difficult.  I'm not sleeping very well either due to the pain.

I'm doing my PT exercises twice a day because I know they are the most important thing to having success with my new knee.  They sent me home with an ice transfer machine that circulates ice cold water around my lower leg, knee and lower thigh.  I wear that from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed and that does help.

Thanks again for your reply.

Cathy, please use extreme caution using the ice machine. There have been many cases of frost bite with patients of these devices.

Topic: RE: silastic ring removal
A few months back, I wrote telling of a total loss of appetite and revulsion to food. I am over seven years out, a smoker who has since recovered from ulcers.

I was given a lot of good eating advice and quitt smoking  advice  .It was suggested that I may be trying to hurt myself by not eating and smoking.  I checked with all my docs including my shrink.  A barium swallow revealed I couldn't even pass a barium pill through my stoma.  It was caused by the silastic ring placed on the outside of my stoma being to tight.  I had  lap surgey to remove it 8/20 and i am already getting a  healty appetite back.

Thanks every one who offered gentle advice and to those who also provided tough love.  It was taken in the spirit it was intended..               Thanks, Loris

Every since I had a hip replacement 2/20 followed by a unrelated stroke 3/13, I am am totally turned off by food.

I am now being treated for numerous ulcers in my pouch.  I am repelled by food.  The  wonderful suggestions of what to eat were very appreciated,  but the idea  of eating or drinking shakes turns my stomach.  I manage two small meals a day.   I lose between a half to a quarter pound a day.

At 5' 5" and 125 I don't want to lose any more, but the concern is the rapidness of the weight loss the lack of nutrition ,weakness and the inability of the ulcers to heal without nourishment.

I am now starting to have vague pain in my lower abdomen.

I have an appt. with my gastro doctor on the 26Th.  My surgeon's NP is setting me up with the surgeon and dietian asap.  She says if I can't start eating they are going to put in a  tube.

I will consult with both doctors for alternatives.

I need support, please don't  think i have a body image problem.   I don't like my weight.  I am too thin for my taste and body type and have no stamina.

Thanks for reading.  LORIS

I'll try to be brief.  I am seven years out.  I decided to lose a few more pounds by cutting out simple carbs and it worked.

On Feb 20 I had a very successful hip replacement.  On March 13th.  I had a stroke.  For a while food got stuck a lot.  I am now fully recovered, but I have no appetite.  I do not want to lose any more weight.  I feel weak.  Any suggestions?

To use my father in law's expression, Good on ya.  My  body has chosen a set point of 152.4.  Oh yes, .4.  At 5'2' that is not thin, but works OK.  I think I will try Susan's suggestion, because I would really like to weigh 142 again.  BTW, I was six years out yesterday.  Of course if I would exercise I could go anywhere.

Congrats on your success and your determination.  Armed with that and your new knowledge, your will achieve your new goal.  Loris

If you have a restaurant supply store available you can buy a wealth of quality kitchen items for $25. Concentrate on stainless.  I love my one peice stainless ladles in all sizes.  They have great whisks for around $3.25.  The selection of spatulas for non stick cookware is great.  Oh, check out the wooden spoons.  Take your time.  :)  Loris

Honeymoon period, bah.  I continued to lose weight for years and reached my goal at three years out.  (I was lazy.) I too had had kidney stones, etc.   You have to work harder or change things up.  Track your food on a program, exercise aerobically.  Limit processed Carbs.  Take into consideration what your excess skin might weigh.  Go for it!  Loris
