Trick or treating can be a good exercise outlet. Here are some tips to integrate exercise into the fall holiday activities:
· Walk door to door with your children while they are trick or treating. When they go to the door, you can wait by the curb and use that as a time to stretch your legs or do mini squats or lunges.
· The children will want to be running from house to house so try and keep up for interval training.
· Use a pedometer and see how many steps you can get in.
· Dance the night away at a Halloween party to tunes like Ghostbusters, Thriller, Monster Mash or Super Freak.
As you get busier this time of the year, that may be when you need to modify your fitness plan. Remember that something is better than nothing. Some suggestions include:
· Varying the intensity
· Adding power exercises (jump, squats or lunges)
· Change the tempo of exercise (take more time with strength exercise to concentrate on the muscle being worked)
· Isometric exercise (where you hold a muscle contraction)
It is important to keep fitness a priority during this time of the year. This may be a good time to try something new. Remember to schedule time during the day for exercise.
