Hormonal Surges due to rapid weight loss?

Does anyone know if there is a link, site, article or anything that explains the hormonal surges we tend to go through due to losing weight so quickly?

I would love to share with my non-wls friends about why I feel so up and down lately. Spent the last few days just wanting to either laugh or cry. Maybe it's not due to surgery. Maybe it's just me getting ready for a padded room.

Thanks!

Fat cells store and also produce hormones. As they break down and are burned off, it releases the stored hormones, so yes, all sorts of weird thngs can happen, from emotions to period problems.

about hormones - I assumed you meant the hormone estrogen not insulin?

Niecey61, this is great! Thanks. The second one has a link to an article about this. It's close to what I was looking for. :)

WE all know that we tend to have mood swings and we know the reason why - usually because we read it here or our surgeon or support group leader told us.

However, I've been trying to find something to back it up that I can share with others. Has a bit more of an impact than saying... oh well, a bunch of us feel this way. ;)

Thanks again.

Bottom line, fat cells store female hormones. As you burn fat the hormones are dumped in your blood stream. Of course you will experience side effects.
