OT: How can I get a restraining order???

So I had neighbors who played loud music, constantly watched our every move, followed us in and out of our home to our cars or vice-versa. Once, the female stood in front of me just looking at me...not saying a word..then walked away.

I never understood their motives or reasoning for this.  After too many loud parties and weed-filled apartment nights, we decided to move to another apartment in a building down the street.

Today, when I come home, I just happened to look upward.  Who do I see but my old neighbors on the roof of my new building!  They didn't see me, but they were looking all around.

I don't know their name(s).  I don't have a clue what their weirdness is with us.  But they spook the **** out of me, and I think we should get a restraining order.  But how do you do that and not even know the name of the person????

Any suggestions?  Could the building management give me her info (the male is not on the lease...that much i've found out)?  Can I get a restraining order on her and her 'household'?

If I had of known they were THAT brand of crazy, I would have moved farther away.

I'm sure it varies from state to state, but in general, you have to apply with the court.  There will be a hearing, where, you have to "prove" more or less, that you are in danger.  In some states you have to have a certain number of proven incidents where the person has hurt you or threatened to hurt you.  You do have to know their names and addresses.

My suggestion is that someone know where you are at all times, and if you aren't where you should be, then, these people might be suspect.   I don't know what else to say...except good luck.  I have some creepy neighbors who I stay clear of.

I doubt you can, unless you can prove they have threatened you in some way and the police have gotten involved and its all documented, I tried getting one against my ex-husband when we were divorcing and I went to a womyn's shelter and they were helping me, when he backed down and moved out.

You don't have enough for a restraining order because no threats were made. However, you should start a file on them with law enforcement, to show that they're stalking you. If it escalates, you will be able to show a pattern.

If they were on the roof of your new building, complain to your manager and ask that police be called. Let the manager know you are worried they could be casing the building for burglary. Let the police investigate and get their names.

Stalking is a reason for a restraining order and there doesn't need to be threats made. Just start reporting it asap. The roof incident reported by the manager keeps you out of it at first, but gets their names for you.

Sounds like some species of crush on U  ......  I would just   smile nicely and TALK to them ,find out their names  ... and THEN get a restraining order  lol  ...

they DO  sound  dangerous and weird  ....U are  probably a beautiful  young woman  and  do need to show Urself U CAN protect Urself or  U will  dive back into  the food and the wall of fat  as self protection.

Many of us  have  forgotten  childhood sexual trauma or boundary violations  that  we remember  as  threatening anxiety causing  issues with the opposite  ( or even our own sex)  in the PRESENT  ....

we need to show ourselves  we are SAFE and capable of self protection  first and foremost  ...

Good  luck Hun    big hugs

Keep a running journal of their actions and talk to the police department  to find out what you need for a restraining order.

I'd take notes on their actions, take some digital photos (from where they cannot see you) and I'd buy several cans of pepper spray.  Pepper spray is legal in most States. I keep one by my chair in the front room, one in my car, one in my jacket pocket when I go walking.  Personally, I would not talk to them, especially if you think they are talking to you.  The documentation and photos may come in handy in the future.
