Band over Bypass

Hello.  I am having lap band (Realize Solution) over RNY gastric bypass on the 30th of December.  I wanted to know if there is anyone else out there that has had this procedure done, and what forum I should go to...would I search the Realize bond one or revision?  Not sure, so thought I'd see if I could get some info from you before searching around.

Thank you!

Are you awarre there was a recent recall of the Realize Band?  Please look into this before your surgery.

Also, if the rny was not effective for you, why would you revise to something even less effective than rny? Everybody knows the band offers the worst results.

It would seem more reasonable to get something more effective like a DS revision?

here is the post about the recall...

Just saw and wanted to share. Apparently they are recalling them, but not wanting to replace it if you already have one in you.   Hmmm??? Not good enough for new patients, but we're not going through the expense of taking them out.  Sounds like a pile of crap to me!

I'd seriously check out the revision forum.  You'll find many people there that are looking for their best options as well.

I realize that a band after bypass is the safest option, but you do know it is not very effective, right?

Definatly go to the revision forum!!! The band is NOT an effective WLS!!! U have other much better options and some of the others that have revised from RNY that are on the forum can advise u on that I am sure.

Good luck!

The band has a 90 % failure rate after 10 years.  Failure means band taken out, slippage or some other mishap, good luck with that band of pain and inconvenience, and a peice of plasice inside your body that you can feel, gross.

I'll bet you that is a conservative number.  I've been posting on these boards for 4 years and I have me 1 person that was banded for 10 years and she was revising to another surgery type.

Others have taken the words right out of my mouth.  My advice to you is as follows:

1) Visit the revisions board;  and
2)  Run (away from the band) as fast as you can.

The DS sounds like a much better option for you.  They couldn't pay me to get/have gotten a band.

I have two suggestions for you...1..visit the revision board
2...listen to YOURSELF...no one here will be laying on the table for you the morning of surgery...they won't be choosing your meals or stepping on the scales for you...YOU are the ONLY person who can choose what you want to do with YOUR body...NO where in your post did I see anything to the effect of "should I get the band" or "what do you think I should choose"  so, listen to what YOU want...I LOVE my "worthless piece of plastic"  this "failure" helped me lose more than 220lbs...and gave me the figure, life and health I wanted when I signed up to have it placed.

Yeah, easy for you to say.  You are not a bypass patient that is surgically metabolically challenged.

Think again.
