b/c splenda calories are adding up fast when I put them in my shakes. Does any1 know about Zsweet or pure erythritol? Thanks!

The caloric and carbohydrate content for SPLENDA(R) Brand Sweetener is as follows:

SPLENDA(R) Granular
1 tsp =  0.5 gm carb = 2 calories
one half cup = 12 gm carb = 48 calories
1 cup = 24 gm carb = 96 calories

*1 tsp. = 1 serving

Packet of SPLENDA(R)
1 packet = .9 gm of carb = 4 calories

*1 packet has the sweetness of 2 tsp of sugar

Note: Per U.S. labeling laws, anything with less than 5 calories per serving, is properly labeled as "zero" or no-calorie.

I've read on low carbing web sites that the liquid sweetners are actually zero carb.  I have to go through some old research.  No time to check now; but, later If I can find the websites and where to order I'll post it.

No Calorie Sweetener

QUICK SWEET PURE SUCRALOSE/ Super Newtame

What is Sucralose? and What is the Newtame?

  • Sucralose is the active ingredient in Splenda® sweeteners, which is 800 times as sweet as sugar
  • Newtame (Neotame type) is a super sweetener which is 10 times as sweet as sucralose & 8000 times as sweet as sugar
  • Zero Calorie
  • FDA-approved general-purpose sweetener:
    • Safe For Diabetics
    • Safe For Entire Family (including children and pregnant women)
  • Safe for cooking
  • Can be used anywhere sugar would be used
  • High concentration
  • Less aftertaste than other artificial sweeteners
  • No carriers or bulking agents such as starch, dextrose, or maltodextrin
  • Pure Sucralose Powder: 1 gram = 1.75 lbs. of sugar; 1 oz. = 50 lbs. of sugar
  • Sucralose Liquid: 1 drops = 1 teaspoons of sugar

Splenda is not truly “No Calorie" because it typically contains carbohydrate bulking agents. But our sucralose powder and liquid are truly Calorie-free.

 I use Stevia ..

found this on the web:

Stevia is a South American herb that is 30 times sweeter than sugar. With hundreds of studies showing Stevia is a safe alternative, it’s the next big thing.

No wonder. It's all-natural, contains zero calories, and has a zero glycemic index. Finally, you can supplement your food and drinks without the chemicals of artificial sweeteners and calories of sugar! And it is safe for diabetics and hypoglycemics.

SteviaPlusTM has zero calories, carbs, zero glycemic index, zero chemicals. Available in convenient packets or powder form.

SteviaClearTM liquid is great for beverages & cooking.

SteviaTabsTM stevia extract tablets dissolve in hot or cold liquids.

The calories in splenda (sucralose) are from the maltodextrin, the bulking agent they use to fluff it up. Liquid sucralose has 0 carbs.

Pure erythritol is 60% as sweet as sugar, it has a slight cooling effect when you taste it and it gives me tummy issues. It has 0.02 calories per tsp.

I have never tried zsweet, but from my understanding its a blend of stevia extract and erythritol. Stevia has an odd, grassy and mildly licorice flavor to me. Its good in certain things like yerba mate tea where the flavor blends in with the tea really well, in other things it can be pretty awful and its a trial and error process to find out how much you like it and how much to use. Some people love it, others can't stand it. Mixed in with the erythritol I suspect you may get more tummy issues than if you used the stevia on its own (which can be purchased in liquid or powdered form).

Personally, I use liquid sucralose, it just works best for me and I dont seem to have issues with it.

thanks every1...does the liquid sucralose mess up the texture of shakes that you blend in the blender with ice?

no because 1 drop is as sweet as 1 tsp or something like that. So you would literally put 2 drops in.
