Today someone posted a deal from "Puritan Pride" Please read this!

Google Puritan Pride. This company has had numerous complaints and have been sued by the Federal Trade Commission, Post Office and has had class action suites. GNC was fined $24,000 for selling their products because of false claims.

I have never used my credit or debit card online. I use paypal. But I used it because Puritan Pride did not take paypal I used it and  days after my debit card purchases (t3 days this past Monday) 4 charge**** my bank; 2 for a company called LivingLeantoday.com and ckt*cricketcomm.com. (not cricket.com) Both of these companies are nonexistent and you can call, e-mail every e-mail address and nothing exists. The livingleantoday.com has made 100's of fake sites to give reveiws and all kinds of fake stuff. How to know this "always check the address and no matter what it says up front if it ends in Livingleantoday.com it's not the business they proprose to be.

Another trick of this company is to say if you buy two you get one free, but hey who looks at the checkout to see that they raised the price on the two you paid for.

I am out $389 for the claims on my account that I did not place and to companies I never even heard of. The bank says 45-60 days for a dispute.  I bought 6 cans of Isolate Protein and I am afraid to use it. I read from the complaint's and investigations that some items did not contain what the label said. Since they make all of their products I am twice as weary..

I called Puritan Pride and when I mentioned all the information on their company they were at a loss for words. They said my debit number could not have been used because it is destroyed but my bank says not all companies

I sent Puritan an e-mail reporting that I contacted the Federal Trade Commission and that they alaready know who they are.

This company even pasted a fake BBB Online. Fake too.

Diana

Please when you google and pick a business, google the business too. I wish I had.

Diana this is truly a new type of marketing.  Mine happened when I bought something that was a "hair appliance".  They sent two and charged me for two and then I had a charge for a travel membership showing up for $40.00 a month.  I called and stopped it online and it didn't stop.  Called the bank and asked for the phone number attached to the charges and called and stopped it officially.  I also got the last month back because it had just been done.  I was also called for months by them to try to sell me more.  If you are getting calls like that you can google them and find out who they are.  I made a silenced ring tone and put it on that number so I don't hear it.  Any time you buy something online you can go to google groups and do a search and if there are a lot of complaints you'll see them.  Always a super good idea.  You should be able to call your bank and get them removed.

One other I heard about (and off topic) was the spy phone software.  You can actually install software on another person's phone and monitor calls and texts but you have to actually install in on the actual phone. (this is technical info not a moral judgment about this kind of software) After a news story about the real companies a web site put up software that would do it without you having to physically have the phone in hand.  In other words it claimed that you could monitor any phone number without actually ever touching the phone you wanted to monitor.  They took $99 from everyone that ordered it and it was a total scam.  There was tons of info out there about it but so many did not check.  No reason to make people paranoid about online charges but just check first.
Great post!

Yea, the bad part (almost) was they wanted me to come in and change my debit card to stop them if I couldn't but that would mean I'd have to change some auto pay stuff and be a huge mess.  Once you call from the phone number a bank gives you it seems to stop them.  The original company was a reputable one, called them and don't think they realized they had shared info with the scam guys. Aaccckkkk!

I made a new post where I copied the lawsuit (just one) please read it because they have two other names they sell with and just swap labels to match the one sold. They copied legit business names to confuse buyers.

I don't know anything about double billing, but I have been doing business with Puritan Pride for over 20 yrs.  All orders have been shipped EXACTLY as ordered, and I have never been double billed.

Diana's complaint is real, there were a number of people who complained about slow shipments and double billing, but everyone who contracted BBB successfully resolved the problem.   The real BBB has the company listed twice, once with 6 complaints resolved and they gave them a C,

BBB processed a total of 6 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 6 complaints closed in 36 months, 1 was closed in the last year.

These complaints concerned :
1   regarding Contract Issues
1   regarding Customer Service Issues
3   regarding Delivery Issues
1   regarding Refund or Exchange Issues

These complaints were closed as:
6   Resolved

another BBB record covers the corportation that included all 7 brand names, that had a BBB rating of A.

The FTC complaint was a 1995 suit, that based upon claims on the use of supplements without having any scientific studies to verify the claim.  This is not unusual in the health foods/supplements business.  In fact, it is fairly common among retailers and supplements companies today.   I know I see ads numerous times everyday that promise to make my "package" grow and please my woman more.

I NEVER give any online retailer my checking account number or my credit card number.  I use a one time Citibank Virtual Account number to make sure I don't have any problems with stolen databases or personal info.

If I had no been doing business with PP for over 20 yrs, I would be hesitant to do business with them.  Even reading the online complaints against PP, I plan on continuing to do business because they have a perfect track record with me.  If they do screw up, and I find their customer service dept will not resolve the problem, I know I can contract the BBB and it will be resolved.
