Kinda OT-DS WLS and invisalign.

Hello everyone,
My name is Jessica but everyone calls me Jessy I am 17 and had my DS on July 11th, so far I have lost 70 pounds and probably more because I haven't been weighed in a while. I just wanted to tell you guys about my day :)

So today I decided to go in and take a look at getting invisalign braces, while I was there getting my teeth pictures taken I started talking about my DS surgery (I live in Alaska and hardly anyone knows about it here) so as I sat there in my chair I was telling him all about the DS and he was so interested he took a seat and told me to tell him more  and eventually some ladies that worked there made their way over to listen to me explain everything. It was great. I was worried that my teeth might be to spaced to be able to get invisalign but to my surprise the dentist told me that they would be able to fix everything! He said "Its like a starting over for you! A new body and beautiful fixed teeth! I'm excited for you!

They all told me that they are excited to be able to see my wls journey and my journey through getting my teeth all fixed up! And in the end we can compare before and after! How awesome.

So I have a question, have anyone had invisalign? Or still currently have them? I know that you have to take them out to eat and then brush and floss and put them back in, and since I eat pretty much every hour and a half (every other day I am like a beast with hunger hahahaha but I just eat something low carb and I am set) soo I know that will take a bit of getting used to.

So any input on invisalign and WLS is appreciated! Thanks for reading.

Uh, I know their company headquarters are across the street from my Home Depot?

I would imagine that having to put them in and take them out over and over during the day would be annoying -- but you would have to clean your teeth and regular braces anyway.  I can also tell you from my younger siblings' results that if you don't, you will end up with straight and terribly stained teeth from the acids in decomposing food being trapped against your teeth. I'm sure you will be able to handle this responsibility just as you are handling your DS.

You are amazing -- 17 years old, so intelligent, composed, knowledgeable, confident -- you will go far, and you need a beautiful shining smile to go with your success.

Thank you Diana . Yeah I'm willing to take good care of them I was just wondering what others experiences were. Now that my body is getting healthy I should make sure my teeth are too . One thing the dentist did tell me was that I need to have surgery on my gums soon, due to the fact that my gums are pretty swollen and a bit thick due to the habit of mouth breathing! I was a bit shocked haha. Before my DS I was getting colds all the time (but now everyone in my house was SICK as all outdoors and I was just waiting for my turn to get sick, but I never did! it was amazing!) and I developed the habit of breathing through my mouth when my nose was all stuffed. And now its a habit I have to break to get my gums headed in the right direction.

But since mine are a bit big and thick he said it would be best if I get the surgery to remove the thick part of the gums and it will make my teeth more visible and make it so the invisalign can get a better grasp on my teeth as well. And it turns out I still have a baby tooth  my mom said "she does?!" and the dentist said "yes, she's still just a baby, only 17!  " lol  So thats gonna need to come out. I'm not to worried about anything, I once had a cavity that was partly in the gum taken out. drilling and all without any pain meds . Hahaha but that was only one time, I've only had one cavity .

Well I haven't had my surgery yet, but I am on my last round of Inviaslign!! I LOVE THEM!!! At first it takes some getting use to taking them out and back in but after a few weeks it just seems normal!!! I have had them for 9 months and I am on my last trays!!! WooHoo!!! If you have any other question about Inviasalign just ask and I can try to answer them for you!!

Wow, congrats on the 70 lbs!

The regret I've heard most about the DS, was just not getting it sooner, so you are my hero.

You are likely the new DS board baby. I'm not sure if Brok is still holding that esteemed position, but he has gotten so skinny he should be easily shoved of the pedestal if he's up there (sorry Brok).

Great job on sharing about the DS too - you never know when you reach someone that needs the info.

Hey Jessy!!!

I never had braces so I can't add anything there but I love the way you are paying it forward where the opportunities provide. From the very first it was evident that you had a good head on your shoulder. You researched all the options and walked in knowing exactly what you wanted and could articulate that beautifully.

Congrats on your success so far and the even bigger success I know you are going to have in the future.

 I'm on my last few trays and love the results! It's kind of distracting at first, but in the grand scheme of things, it's no big deal. Compared to other braces, they are incredibly easy. I went through the first year and then wasn't happy with the results on my bottom teeth, so they re-adjusted and now I'm just wearing them on the bottom during the day. You need to sleep with them for the rest of your life (when you get to the last set) or else your teeth will start moving back, but it actually keeps me from grinding my teeth, so I don't mind. I used to hate to smile with my teeth showing, but now I love it!

I have Invisalign and since my surgery I tend to eat every 2-3 hours. YES it is a pain in the neck brushing and flossing 8 times a day. I just carry a portable toothbrush and floss with me everywhere.

So, yes, it's annoying, but do-able.
