Gotta make a decision ..and wat ur input?
Well oh family... I went to see my surgeon today since like over a yrs. I was so nervous as to those that read my last blog. I thot that she was going to turn me dwn due too that I have a high bmi an she requested that I lose 40 pds in two months. The nurse came in first and told me that yeah Barbara you have come to that road are you ready for surgery. (look at her and think... um yeah its been 3 yrs wat do u think lol). We talk about all my pro op stuff that has bein done and everything was fine. She told me that I knew my stuff and im a good candiate for this. So now we get to the weight loss part Ive lost a total of 11 pds in two months but it wasnt enough. So we talk about another route. Ok ....this is wat I want your opinions about.....
1 She will do the surgery but I have to lose another 20 pds and she will do it no questions ask. I gotta show her that I wanted to this and she said I lost 11pds so 20 more shouldn't be as hard as she say my surgeon.
2 Have open gastric bypass wit another surgeon in the same office ....I dont have to do anymore pre ops stuff just make a consult wit him and he will look over my chart.
3 Have a sleeve done lose 100 pds an then have the gastric bypass only if my insurance covers it.
Well wat u think?
Ive been workin on this surgery for 3 yrs now my insurance will be changing soon now that I will be started a new job soon.
I know wat i want and yes only i will go thru this but i just wanna knw wat you think, also if anyone had to make this decision and wat did u do ?

I would go for the other 20 pounds if those are your options.
But not all surgeons require you to lose that much weight before surgery. Some require that you lose none at all. Mine doesn't require weight loss pre-op but says 10-20 pounds is a good idea. And she does them all laproscopic.
I have a friend who got the sleeve. Lost over 100 pounds. And now cannot get his insurance to approve the RNY since he already had the sleeve.

personally, I'd work on losing the weight and stick with your surgeon. the rec is to make your surgery safer and to be sure that you are ready -- do a couple of weeks of liquid diet if you need to; I worked out every day (only 10 minutes, because that is all I could handle then) and really worked in following my eating plan for the month prior to my surgery, and I lost 23 lbs. - it was a lot of work, but so worth it, and I was so much better able to move after my surgery because I had been walking and using my elliptical machine beforehand.
I'd check ou tthe sleeve vs. bypass info (don;t know much about the sleeve, myself) and choose the procedure that is best for you, rather than planning to have 2 surgeries, or picking it as a quick fix -
You can do it, girl - you've been working on this so long - only a little more to be ready to schedule. Hang in there! -Sarah

As much as I would not like the sound of open... I'd jump on it. I dont want towait anylonger. I've been fat for far too long and one more day when I could be so close would just kill me. I know that we are supposed to worry about changing everything and prove we can do it after the surg, but I want it, I want it now and If i had a dr that said your set, it just has to be open... I'd jump on that.
20 pounds could come off over night, or in 5 months, I couldn't wait

How soon will your insurance be changing, and will your new insurance cover the surgery? I'd hate to see you rush into a decision that will effect you for the rest of your life.
If I were in your shoes, I think I'd take my records and go to a different surgeon all together. Frankly, it doesn't sound like they are doing much to work with you and your needs. Do they know about your insurance situation?
I think it was completely unrealistic of them to require you to lose 40 lbs in such a short span of time. To me, that shows a lack of understanding for Morbidly Obese folks. Especially that she thinks losing 20 more lbs should be "easy" for you.

i personally had the option to either have an open surgery or lose weight and have lap....i chose to lose the weight and have lap. boy am i glad i did i have enough scars from everything else i didnt want another big one and my insicions are sooo tiny...plus u recover alot faster and its less pain..but i would def lose the weight before hand gives u less risks and shows them u can stick to i t and u really want it but then again some ppl try try try and try and still cant lose it afterall thats why we have surgery to begin with bc we cant lose it idk im just rambling now but id say lose the 20 lbs first.! and good luck hope everything works out for u!
for me, option #3 would be out just because it talks about 2 surgeries. I had a mini open and I love it. I do have a 2 1/2 inch scar down my chest, but it has faded and you can barely see it. I have known people to have lap rny and it ended up being open. I just didn't like the idea of working on me like that, it reminded me too much of a video game and if something went wrong, my surgeon already had me open. Plus, no telling how long it will take to lose 20#. It is your decision and you will make the right one. Good luck!!!

I would find a DS surgeon and get the best surgery for someone as big as you, and they almost NEVER require weight loss pre-op, even for SSMOs.
Fatty-hating RNY surgeon, that's what you have. What the F*CK gives her the right to make you PROVE yourself to her??
My DS surgeon does 800 lb people lap, in one surgery.
