What's the ave. % rate of weight of loss? l saw a post a while
I think Elina has posted it, and isn't average, it's what Dr. Cirangle wants his patients to do. He has excellent success. It is 50% at 3 months, 80% at 6 months and 100% at a year I believe. That is percent of excess weight loss (EWL) and his goal is to see his patients lose 100% of their excess weight in a year. Not all of his patients lose that fast, and many still get to goal. The point is to push hard when it's easiest (first six months).
You have hit the stats on the nose. This is not average weight loss by any means. This is what my doctor wants to see from his patients. Many hit these numbers and others lose slower and still hit their goal. The point is to really push your weight loss in the first six months. He believes that you can still lose later, but for many it gets harder with time. He wants us to maximize our loss. I think these numbers work great for people with about 100 lbs. to lose, any more than that and the numbers get harder to hit, but the intent is the same. I have seen heavy weights lose 100% of their EWL in one year to 18 months. After that it is still possible to lose, but it feels more like dieting felt before surgery.
It seemed really high to me too. I didn't believe it was possible when my doctor first told me that is what I will lose in three months. He was right on the money, almost to a pound, and i beat his expectations and reached his goal for me in 6.5 lbs. That means I lost from 196 lbs. to 110 lbs. in that time frame. I then continued to lose all the way down to 101 lbs. I am tiny so that was OK. I am now between 102-106 lbs. I know many, many other Dr. Cirangle patients who have has very similar results. There doesn't seem to be anything anomalous about my experience at all. On the other hand, I have seen other patients that have followed the program to the letter lose slower and still get to goal.
Well I started at 188 and so i tracked all the past posters I could find on here under 200 to see how fast they lost and 50% at 3 months out was anomalous to these #'s. I've been 100% compliant and my losses are definitely slow which was somewhat surprising to me as I've always been a fairly fast and consistent loser. Of course it will come off since it's not going in and I'm exercising, just on a different schedule than i would like. With your numbers it also means if you lost 50% by 3 months you lost 100% by 6.5, so you lost you weight absolutely consistently which is also anomalous to my research. Most folks would say they lose fast and slow down, you clearly did not.
I am not arguing that these are average numbers for all sleevers. I would agree with you that overall the weight loss seems to me much slower for many and many more never even reach goal. I am only talking about my particular doctor. For him, these are not anomalous numbers at all. These are his everyday statistics. I am not saying everybody has the same results, but this result is more common then not. He wants all of his patients to hit these numbers and many do. When looking for surgeons, this was one of the things I considered, along with complication rates. I have been going to his monthly support group meetings for two years now and although I don't' weigh people at the meetings, :) it is visually obvious that the rate of loss in remarkable. Again, this is not true for everybody, and i do see some people that seem to lose slower, in general, they seem to be older woman (possibly slower metabolism), or people that admit to not being 100% compliant. Otherwise, you can jus****ch people melt, it is pretty inspiring. Many people come to three or more meetings before they ever decide to have surgery and can see it for themselves. It kind of takes your breath away.
Not sure if this is the one you were looking for, but I posted this a few weeks back. It is what my NUT gave me and it is an average.
Month 1 ~19% (she said this was the most erratic month though with people really often having very different results).
Month 3- 30%
Month 6- 50%
Month 9- 60%
Month 12- 70%
Month 15- 80%
Edited to add: This is not percentages of total weight, but rather percentages of calculated excess weight.
