New "rule" for grazers

Please everybody understand that I use the term "rule" loosely because it's just something I tried because I caught myself falling into the trap of grazing and it worked for me so I thought I'd share.  I had been in a major stall and finally am losing weight again because a week ago I decided to implement the "3 hour rule" that I made up.  It's pretty simple.  If I have eaten in the last 3 hours I can't eat until the 3 hours are up.  Like, if I eat at noon then I can't eat again until 3 pm.  I knew I was grazing a little but I had no idea just how much I had started grazing until I started this and I realized how often I was looking at the clock to see if I could eat again.  I realized that at those moments I would have just snacked on something unnecessarily if I had not been following my rule.  I am still eating mostly just protein because I can only get about 3 adult sized bites down per meal.  I really think this method is kicking my weight loss back into high gear.  I also think it works because it keeps my metabolism going at a steady pace rather than having all the highs and lows it had before.  I hope this can be helpful to others!

It makes perfect sense to me!  Do you drink liquids during these three hours?

I was doing something like this in the weight loss phase. I figured if normal hunger was every 3-4 hours and I was supposed to do 3 meals and 1 snack, that means I shouldn't be eating more often than every 3-4 hours.

But now that I'm trying to maintain, I need to eat more so I'm doing every 2-4 hours instead.

Thanks for this. I can see myself starting to graze and thinking its ok because I eat so little when I do sit down. I don't work nor have much to do to keep me occupied so grazing could get out of control.....
Thanks!

Keep track of everything you put in your mouth. This information can be quite eye opening. Calories, carbs, protien, fat, etc.
Information stoped me from grazing. It can be hard to stop grazing, but after a while I think. I have to eat again?

What a great idea Mrs. S!  I, too, am a grazer ... which is probably the main reason my weight loss has stopped, HA!  "Oh it is only a couple of bites; what will it hurt."  Yeah, right.  It has stopped me 30 pounds above where I'd like to be is what it has hurt!  Thanks; I'm going to try this!      --Dorothy
