I'm scheduled to have my RNY with Dr. Nick this coming Monday, 1/28!
I love, love, LOVE Dr. Nick, and Baylor Regional Plano, too. I'm very anti-doctor / anti-hospital (my mother was sick for a long part of my childhood), but the more I researched, the more impressed I became.
Even better, they have a team of "insurance coordinators" who will get in there and get their knuckles bloody with the insurance companies -- I had to do 6 months of pre-submission hoops, then an additional 4 weeks once my pre-surg approval packet was turned in, but I tell you what! They made it happen! And they became friends in the process.
Since my consult, I've spent a lot of time in the different parts of Baylor Plano (lab, radiology, etc), and MANY of the staff have had their surgery with Dr. Nick, and they ALL love him! Christina, one of his insurance coordinators, just had her RNY with him before Thanksgiving, and she was back at work a week later! But everyone I've dealt with at the clinic AND the hospital have been super sweet and REALLY helpful -- which, if you've ever spent time in a hospital, is pretty impressive.
And he's just so sweet. I was completely undecided when I went to his seminar in June '07, and I loved his approach -- he wasn't selling WLS, just giving info. Maybe it would be helpful, maybe not. But he BELIEVES in the current stats on obesity out there, and for those people where it's more dangerous to their health to stay the way they are, RATHER than take the risks a surgery will bring -- he's got some options.
He does RNY, lap-band, and VSG. The only thing he won't do is DS.
I also learned that on Feb. 1, they'll be getting their "Center of Excellence" designation from some big Bariatric authority in the US -- which was the only thing I wished they had when I was researching them initially.
I can't say enough good things about him, his team, and the hospital. I really hope this helps.
Crystal,
Yes, thank you so much! I really appreciate all the information. And I'm so glad they'll be a Center Of Excellence; I've been wondering why they're not. Glad to hear Dr Nick is so great; I've been jumping thru hoops since May 31st when I went to his seminar. I've just got to finish a sleep study and I'll be all done, I HOPE!
Congratulations on your RNY next week! Wooo Hooo!
God Bless You!
