NJ Support Group listing for 2010
Hey gang,
One of the frequently asked questions is where to find a support group? I am trying to go over past postings, to come up with a list of support groups and when they meet. Eventually I would like to post a listing of all support groups through out our fine state - this way it would be convenient for everyone.
That’s why I need your help. Can you please tell me which support groups you know of, location, the day and/or time the classes are held, if they are open to “everyone" or to just patience’s of specific doctors, free or fee, County, contact information?

Weight Loss Surgery Support Group I - meet the second Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and is for patients who have had bariatric surgery less than one year ago.
Gastric Band Surgery Support Group meet the third Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weight Loss Surgery Support Group II - meet the fourth Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and is for patients who have had bariatric surgery more than one year ago.

*PLEASE NOTE: A member has said it’s the 3rd Thursday however the webpage reports 4th Thursday. I spoke to Ms. Thomas who confirms it IS the 3rd Thursday – but there are those rare times it will be switched to the 4th. She suggests to always call to ensure if there are any changes – especially in bad weather

BTW, I went to my first support group meeting at Morristown Memorial last night, and it was fantastic, I was very impressed with the discussion leader and group members.

I'm a new member on the site and have a question regarding insurance requirements for surgery.
I know that I need letters from dr's etc, and need to attend a seminar, but there's also a requirement to attend a support/education class for bariatric education... Can anyone clarify this for me?
My surgeon's office gave me a name of one person in that holds a class one wednesday a month in Hackensack and I can't attend on any Wednesday's... Does anyone know of any other class? Also, there's a $50 feefor the class... So, I am a bit confused on this and I don't want to hold up my surgery...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated... My insurance carrier is Horizon BC/BS of NJ...
