Absolutely no regrets. And I eat ground beef all the time. Maybe you can be an example for your sister of how easy it is. Since you're paying your own way you can go first anyway. She'll probably have to jump through some insurance hoops before she's approved.

I'm having problems which seems to be developing GERD.  I never had heartburn before surgery and am looking at a possible band removal.

Even with that being said I would do it again in a heartbeat though I think I would use a different surgeon.  I'm not sure that was the problem but it's one of those ya never know.  My biggest fear right now is to lose my band but I've decided if it comes to that I'm revising to a vsg.  I am 4 months out and down 58lbs.  I NEVER want to go back to where I was.  I feel so much better than I have in years and this is a wonderful opportunity!  I've never pbed and you never have to if you are careful.  I can eat ground beef.  I've never been a soda drinker so haven't tried it but I know some people still drink it.

If your sister won't do it with you then you can go ahead with it and after she sees your success she may join the band wagoon ;)

I paid out of pocket for the surgery and would do it again for sure. I am almost 6 months out and have lost 90 lbs so far. I'm loving it. I follow the rules, eat slowly and chew and have been able to enjoy pretty much all foods just in smaller amounts. I have only PB'd 3 times and each one was because I let myself get too hungry and ate too fast not chewing. I have not had any reflux (knock on wood). I was definately scared about not being able to eat my foods I love but I still can just in moderation. I think it all just comes down to what you are willing to do in order to lose weight and be healthier. For me, I was willing to give up pop and the possibility of breads in order to lose weight, but not everyone may be at that point. My only regret is not doing this sooner.

Heck...even if I didn't lose a single pound, this surgery was 100% worth it for curing my reflux alone!  Then the weight loss just makes it freaking awesome!

5 weeks and 35 pounds later i feel so much better.  And I have an emtpy band and can eat anything, just less of it.  I may have PB once or twice only cause i didnt chew it up good.  Why does your sister think you cant eat ground beef???  POP....nobody should drink that stuff anyways.  Have you seen how good pop cleans your toilet????  Why would you put that in your mouth.  You will find  great alternative foods and beverages that you will fall in live with.  It is a great experience and the start of a wonderful journey for me.  i can saywithout even being filled yet....hell yea i would do it again.

If I had to do it over again, I would have a different type of surgery to be completely honest with you.  I have had many, many problems and the vomiting and sliming have been a nightmare for me.  It isn't as much of a problem for some people, but for some of us it's horrendous.  I am in constant pain from adhesions around the port and although this isn't the norm, there are others that have problems as well (you won't see them so much on this board but maybe on the revisions forum).  This is ONLY my opinion from personal experience; there are so many others with amazing successes and no problems whatsoever that I can only speak for myself, and if you were my best friend, I would tell you to have a different surgery because if I could do it over again, that's what I would do.  Not sure which one, maybe RNY or the sleeve, but in any event, that's what I'd do and what I may actually have to do if they can't put a stop to my port pain and scarring issues. On a positive note, I couldn't be more thankful for the weight I've lost so far, it has already made a huge difference in my quality of life.  Now if only it didn't hurt to breathe, I would be completely happy.   Good luck to you!
