Finding your "happy weight"

Most, if not all, of us have struggled to determine what "magic number" we'd like to reach as our goal weight. Sometimes we set "normal" as a goal, but sometimes "normal" is only "normal" as dictated by insurance companies. For example, "normal" for me at 5'10" can be as low as 132 pounds. To me, that's insanity.

5+ years out, I know what my "comfort zone" is with regard to my weight, but for those of you still in the process, here's something for you. I found this article on Yahoo:

What is my ideal weight? 5 tips for finding your happy weight

My "happy weight", as determined by the test, is - to me, anyway, - a little too thin, but this may give a lot of people an idea of what they may want to aim for as an "utlimate goal."

But keep this in mind: the ultimate goal in all of this really is being able to live a healthier, happier life, no matter what the scale says!

I don't know if this helped or hurt........I did the "happy" weight and it was very close to my goal, so I am OK with that, but I also did the body fat calculator, and according to the american council on exercise, though I am only 9lbs overweight, I am still OBESE ugh.......thought I had left that b****h behind forever.

I tend to overthink these things.........so I guess I need to workout more.  How do they account for skin in those measurements though.....not excluded, right?

Yeah, can you imagine if I got down to the 120's, I would be very sickly looking.  I am not small enough in frame to get that little!

I tried just to see. I was shocked that it was just a bit under what the doc said i should be at. doc said 118 the "happy weight" said 117. I would love to get down to 118, but i still have it in my head that i never will.

Found the calculator! My happy weight is 140. I am currently 147 (started working on losing the Xmas pounds, rather late in the year, yesterday!). My usual weight nowadays is 142-145.

Sounds fine to me!

My happy weight is 150. In 1985 I weighted 150 and wore a size 12. Got married, 2 kids later,I was 230. Then in 2004, had my thyroid taken out. That put me up to 280..  Once I got on the scale and it said 315 that was my breaking point. This is going to stop.Called the doctors office in July and by Jan, on my way back down.I'm so thankful I had lapband and its working so well for me. And I think I will hit that 150 mark,by my first band  anniversary.  Sure going  to try. Good luck everyone

My "ultimate goal" was to weigh what I weighed when I graduated high school: 195. When I reached that number, I was thrilled to death. Getting even lower was, pardon the pun, "just gravy."

well, i didn't do the test but i would think any weight that you or happy with would be your happy weight. My Dr. has me at 220 being my so called happy weight, but i do know i will never be there. At one time i got down to 245 but had to starve myself to stay there for a few weeks. I'm looking to being 275 300 and be happy with my life and not have to starve to stay there. Yes, i will still be obese according to my BMI, but its my life, and if I'm happy than so be it. Who knows how long we have to live, so what if i don't live to be 100 years old, at least if i die tomorrow , ill have lived a happy life

My "happy weight" came out to be 170.

That particular body fat calculator claimed that my lean body mass is 133, which means my weight at an acceptable body fat % would be 193, and at a fitness body fat % would be 175. I am not sure that 133 is an accurate lean body mass for me, though, because that would mean I am currently at 54% body fat, and I am pretty sure I'm in the upper 40's. My exercise physiologist estimated my LBM at 148, which puts me at 49% body fat currently (and goals of 214 and 195). That's why my signature goal is 214.

Pre-op: 347 High preg. wt: 331  Current:  284
Next goal: 283 Lowest post-op: 276

I just used the calculator and I laughed when it gave me my "happy" weight.  Never, not even in the days of starvation, did I ever weigh that little.  I can honestly say that the # it gave me sounded completely ridiculous to me.  I'm pretty happy where I am.
