I got a ticket, 60 in a 45, several years ago. I paid the fine, but signed up for "classes" to avoid the points and insurance issue. I don't know if that is an option in other states or not, but in KY it was for me. It was my first and only ticket, but if you haven't had one in a long time, that should not be an issue. It took 6 hours on a Saturday, well worth it to me not to have it on my record.

Just my experience,
Susan

Thanks for responding, hmm. I did not know you could volunteer for driving classes...hhmm... I don't really think I need any, I am not a reckless driver...I typically stay within the normal range on the interstate with the flow of traffic....I guess 90 percent of Americans need to go to driving school coz NO one ever drives the speed limit on the interstate

You, by your own admission, were speeding.  You need to pay the ticket.

Were you ticketed in the state in which you live?  If not, I don't believe your license will be affected.  I could be wrong though.

Also, I bet, his radar gun is calibrated more than your spedometer, tires, etc.

One more thing, lol, if you haven't had a ticket in a long time I doubt that your insurance will go up.  Most insurance companies allow one boo boo.

Thanks for responding....NO...I live in Virgina and I was ticketed in Maryland, so you think if the ticket was written in Maryland I should not get points in Virginia if I just go ahead and pay?

That sucks. As a matter of principle, I'd say fight it. However, typically, in traffic court you're presumed guilty before you even walk in the door, even though the credo in this country is innocent until proven guilty. Traffic court exists primarily to generate revenue, and unfortunately, you probably won't get off scot free. Check with an attorney in that particular area to see what your options are.

I feel I was unfairly pulled over last spring as well (for running what I insisted was a yellow light, jerkface officer said it was red) Anyway, I spoke with one of the attorneys I work with and he and I worked out a way I could avoid getting points on my license with the prosecutor. Here in NJ there is a violation, the gist of which is called "unsafe driving," which is a no-points ticket. However the fine is ridiculous. Instead of what would have been about a $200 ticket, I ended up paying over $400, BUT with NO points. Really sucked to basically have to bribe the traffic court to keep my driving record clear, but the insurance surcharge over time would have been much more than that.

I don't know what you're willing to pay to keep your record clean, or even if something similar exists in that particular jurisdiction, but it might be worth investigating. Good luck to you!

Thanks sweetie for sharing your experince, as I think about it I am not sure if I will get points since it was just a "speeding ticket" and not reckless driving and it was not in my own state..... I will ask someone else about this.....

Are you kidding me? You SET your cruise to 78 in a 65 and wonder of you should fight a ticket? He said you were going 91? You think that because others were traveling that fast so you should too? It is people like you that keep me in a job prosecuting those who believe they can justify anything. IF you fight it, do me a favor and tell the judge the truth....tell him exactly what you wrote here so everyone in the court room can get a good lauugh and the judge can take extra blood pressure medacine. Not to mention, your story is a bit shakey. If you just got on the expressway and were setteling in to "78" how were you already upf to 91. I am guessing you were going even faster, endangerine everyone else on the freeway. OH...be sure to tell him...:EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING IT AND THEY WERE NOT PULLED OVER." I rembeber that from the first great object lesson about everyone jumping off a cliff. Guess you were absent that day.

Listen witch, it is obvious that you don't like me from last year, I am an honest person, if I was evil I never would have posted MY ticket here....

That said, if you don't like a person please block them and don't give your evil opinion, I understand that you are a prosecutor...glad I will never dawn any court room of yours...*whew*, the point of my post was asking others of their experiences and if it was better for me to just pay off a speeding ticket...I never MENTIONED that I as NOT speeding, but I WAS NOT GOING 90 miles per hour that is my point....and if you have always GONE the speed limit and never drove over ..you are a big a@@ Lie and rare breed........

I just wanted to get opions of those that have gone to traffic court...by the way...I am far from a criminal my post was being in humor...by the way I hold the highest level top security clearance; ..so I am far far from being a criminal..... I have never been to traffic court this is why I asked here....

It is not a matter of if you were speeding, but if you should try not to have to pay for speeding. You never made the points you now claim you were trying to make in the original post. But if you want to go  head to head with the officer who's testimony will be deemed more credible than yours, do so. If you are ethical, pay the ticket. It is about ethics and character. Given your propensity to be dismissive of others and call names instead of address issues, I think it is clear to most which side of the line you will fall on.
