Need Help (Weak, Swelling, Thrush, etc...)

I started a job 2 weeks ago, first one in over a year. Its a desk job, in training but I have swelled in my feet, ankles and legs something crazy since day 1 of starting. I have been propping my feet as much as possible but I even swell now if I walk around in a store for 10 minutes. My feet are covered in bruises and blisters from the swollen masses rubbing in shoes.

I feel WEAK. I am upping my protein intake but this is crazy weak. Like, I have to lift my own leg to get it in the car weak. :(

I have had thrush from hell for 2 weeks and went through an entire bottle of Nystatin, and no relief.

My torso is rashed up wherever there is a pressure point like bra strap, panties and waistband of clothing. I didn't have any skin issues till 2 weeks ago. It seems to want to breakdown on any scar or stretchmark.

What have I done to attempt to figure this out? I have had my labs drawn on Thurs, so soon I'll know if that shows anything. I have upped my protein, yogurt and started taking a probioti****ep my feet up whenever I can. I have to take a bath in lotion or oil to keep my skin from scabing over.

A new occurance is I feel short of breath as of Friday. I feel like I am starting to lose my mind because there is nothing that seems to be different other than I increased my activity.

I hope that someone has an idea what direction to go with this. When I went to my checkup, I tried to bring up some of this but Dr H seemed unconcerned and I felt like I probably should share with a PCP, and not him.

It sounds like you're having an allergic reaction to something.  Are you taking any medications? Are you using protein shakes?  Some people are allergic to the protein in their shakes and have to switch.  The rash and shortness of breath are a dead give away.  The only reason I know this, is because I recently learned (the hard way) that I'm allergic to penacillin (sp?).  You need to get in to see you PCP right away.

That sounds horrible Charity.  I hope you get it figured out.  I haven't worked in a while either so I can imagine how you feel finally getting a job and having this to deal with.  Nothing really came to mind except maybe an allergy to something??

Can you go to an urgent care center to get help since it's Sunday.  I really hope you find it's something simple and easily cured.  Let us know how you are doing.  I'm sending you healing vibes in the meantime.

I hope a medical professional can join in this discussion, because I'm sure NOT one, but...

First, shortness of breath is nothing to wait "until you can get an appointment" to figure out.  When you go to a hospital ER and have shortness of breath, you go to the head of the line.

Also, one cause of shortness of breath goes along with those swollen feet.  You could be filling your lungs up with excess fluids, too.  You need a professional to evalutate that...ASAP.

The edema needs to be treated.  My doctor gives me Demadex--which I like better than Lasix.   We MUST take potassium with that kind of diuretic, but it works like a charm.  Many years ago, a doctor gave me a large dose of Demadex because I felt like I was walking on sponges (not as bad as what you have going on, but uncomfortable because my job involved a lot of standing and walking.)  I took one tablet (I think it was the 20mg...I only use the 10s or even a half of a 10mg now) and lost eight pounds in six hours.  Eight pounds of water is a gallon!

Then...when I get thru**** means I'd better be on the lookout for vaginal yeast infections, too.  I treat everything at once...with Nystatin, Diflucan (which is VERY powerful but my doctor says you CAN take one every three days if needed) and with the creams.

I don't know your insurance situation or financial situation, but shortness of breath and edema would take me to an ER.

You need to be seen by a doc ... either in the ER or your PCP.  I'm thinking ER since it's Sunday!

Hear what the VETS on this board are saying??  ER -- and stat!

Don't let them push you away.  Be VERY assertive (wear your ***** panties) and get yourself admitted.

The activity involved in just getting ready for and going to work all day gave you the heads up on edema.  Good job on getting in more protein -- I hope it is in the form of whey isolate.  It will likely take a while for your body to get in all it needs though, if you were running low.

I can't emphasize this enough for others reading --- your protein levels are SO DAMN IMPORTANT!!  By the time symptoms show up, you are already deficient.  Muscle needs protein --- your heart & brain are muscle!!

Oh, and Nystatin is worthless.  Don't ever settle for less than Diflucan.

I agree with the others, ER, now, please.  What you are explaining points my brain to some scary things.  These are symptoms of heart issues in women.  GO.
